    1. here are some of the N.H. brethren wearing jewels-and in fact-one wearing his long service gong.
    2. Thanks Rick! Ministry of Fish huh? I remember seeing those enormous trawlers off the coast in the 1980s. Yup- I got the set: "for destroying world cod stocks"....
    3. CRIKEY! THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE! I tip my hat to you chaps-I just thought it looked like an interesting cavalry ribbon bar on a Beamter-I hadn't the foggiest you'd actually find him. Thanks for the work. I owe you one. I Love the "sorry about the bomb hitting your house" comment!
    4. Excellent docs- I wonder if RR knows he can get an Eire passport with those connections. Useful for traveling these days.
    5. Hmmmm... must be very boring as nobody commented on it. Well, can anyone be so kind as to at least provide and rough-n-dirty translation of what it says? Ta! QS
    6. I believe Wels is in Austria (Ost Deuschland or O.D. in the book-an alternative to 'Ostmark" sometimes. I think the last name is Czech in origin. Is this the same Senior Private who served in ID45 and was KIA in Russia in 1943?
    7. Interesting post. On eBay over the past year several nurses groups have popped up and all have had issued WW1 Victory medals--with "France" bars.
    8. Amazing bar! Unique and rare beyond rare. there is a story there! Buy it! Oh... In my estimation, the bar without the Brazillian medal is worth 150 Euros. WITH that Brazillian medal-500 Euros. If it has a good story and I suspect it does-800 Euros.
    9. I am almost afraid to add more things to this thread as poor Rick's computer will collapse under the strain of those pictures loading...... but here is one I got many months ago-some sort of young communists/ pioneers league badge: Excellent (?) work badge of some sort ("kivalo kisdobos munkaert") -I have no idea what "Kisdobos" means and my dictionary has no reference at all.-sigh- But it is beautifully made-so I presume an earlier one. About 3.4cm in diameter.
    10. Rick and I went to a fair a long while back and I got a set of these. But the question is... what are they? Can anyone help? I suspect they are either dock workers long service badges-or merchant marine long service badges, but they aren't in my book. Thanks!
    11. I know you do not like OMSA because of past members' actions Rick, and fair enough-but the present day management -and the future leadership team (which will include Ed Haynes within 5 years or I am not a betting man) ...but OMSA I would bet would be happy to publish a ribbon bars book. Similarly if you were to do a ribbon bars of the world book I'd bet that Schiffer would take a very hard second look. Also, OMSA has an endowed research fund.
    12. Is that a Paul Harris medal-for rotarians? It's the big one with the yellow/blue ribbon on the right. Often it has a name on it. Also-what does that Crusade medal look like? Does it have "P. Grant" underneath the head?
    13. no good photos-but there are some around. here's are pre and post 1933 ribbon bars. perhaps one day they will go live on The Island with so many other interesting ribbon bars.
    14. I will take all 5 and buy another 5 for the OMSA Library (despite it being given away). The Bremen List was sent-and the box has arrived-EMPTY!!!! It was opened in Philidelphia by US customs and not resealed. I have filed a claim. I am screwed.
    15. Humberto-you mean medals are worn chronologically? Why don't El Salvadoran medals go first?
    16. A British purple heart? Egad, these people will not be happy until they've turned the UK into America! I vote against it, although I must admit, I'd LOVE the medal bars that result. I shudder to think of what the design would look like though. However, if this does get passed, there's no reason not to extend it all the way back to 1946!
