    1. Well done! I have grown to appreciate the Lion and Sun medal-especially as it was so widely awarded in Europe.
    2. Nice! Not only French though- all members of the Grande Armee. Have you seen any certificates for it?
    3. ooooh- VERY nice. I almost wonder if that was an ex-german in Cuban uniform. Hmmmmmmm.....
    4. Right on! I started thumbing through the lists a long time ago, got distracted by family matters and totally forgot! What REALLY sticks out is the Bavarian Ludwigs cross. So this guy had the SL the Carl troop cross and the war medal and nothing else. That screams staff/rear eschelon dR doesn't it? NO LS or commemorative medals? Hmmmm.....
    5. That's exactly what those rings are! Those are very early.
    6. Now THAT is cool! A double award document. Makes you wonder if -in certain units anyway, getting an EK2 automatically got you an FAM.
    7. There were a number of state and local medals issued for the Span-Am. war as well as encampment badges/medals. OMSA has had a few monographs published on the subject. I believe Jeff Floyd, who is a treasure trove on US medals, may be able to point you to general references. There was also a CUBAN issued Span-Am. campaign medal, which only a relative few US vets purchased/ had awarded.
    8. Incredible group-to a premier regiment and OH! what a history this man had! Drool! http://books.google.com/books?id=mMwOAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA179&dq=Geschichte++regiment+91+arzt+koenig&hl=en&ei=sFBWTMS1IsK88gbb87yQBA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CDMQ6AEwAzgK#v=onepage&q=orden&f=false
    9. About 5-6 years ago on eBay.de there were a series of portrait photos (@20 or so) sold out of Austria of sailors aboard the Breslau and Goeben . Most were very clear portraits and taken in Istanbul as I recall and they went for fantastic sums. Almost ALL (90%+)the sailors in the photos had an EK2 and a Gallipoli Star and MANY had Bulgarian medals as well. The combination (EK2/OHB/BMVK) is unusual and memorable. The Bulgarian cross was handed out liberally to rankers who were IN Combat, not as a merit or courtesy award. Whoever this ranker was, he was almost certainly in the Balkans/Middle East in 1915-18.
    10. Fantastic snap Theodor!!! :jumping:
    11. Yeah-thin now, but not for much longer.....the Saxon medal, Hesse and the HHK all would narrow it down a lot to a professional soldier. I reckon a battalion commander in 1918.
    12. Complete rubbish! Only vaguely 1:100,000 possible for some sort of Landwehr Officer Stellvetr. or senior Sanitats NCO/ Arzt/rear echelon wonder-genius who entered as a war volunteer. Some people WERE like this, but not many. I have photos of OfficerStlvtrs. in Poland in 1917 engaged in ordinance clearance who have -almost-this sort of medal combination (minus about 3 medals). BUT, a Bavarian MVKx3cr. WITH an Austrian officer's MVK?........REALLY, REALLY, really, really unlikely.
    13. I would KILL=KILL= for the 1st bar. Hanovarians are awesome. The fact that there is a Prussian campaign medal WITH a Laganzala medal on the same bar is a great contrast! Tony Colson would have loved it. Somewhere out there is the Hanovarian roll and the OOB for the Hanovarian army.
    14. In a word- wow! That is an impressive collection. That's what-@ $10,000 US on that table?
    15. Hmmmmmmmm....odd that a Bavarian wouldn't have a Jubilee but would have a centenl. medal-...maybe Navy...but still, looks like it was made Friday. Not for me.
    16. kind of expensive postage though huh?
    17. Megan-do you hyave any more information about this medal? When is it awarded?
    18. Syria had troops in Gulf War 1?? I had no idea they were our allies!
