    1. Note the date on the letter....the SA rEservists were busy putting them on.
    2. uh- I don't like that backing. have you blacklighted it?
    3. Try "Red Cross" in Iowa-he's a font of knowledge-and an OMSA member to boot!
    4. I have this book. Everything Col. Al. Gleim did is well worth having. The 42nd Div. was entitled to the following clasps(Circular 46 War Dept. June 30, 1924): Defensive Sector Champagne-Meuse Aisne-Marne St. Mihiel Meuse Argonne I note the 26th Division also had these clasps.
    5. ...and what about the ones for 2006? perhaps German exports are still in production.
    6. wow-the one that got away. So the final bid was 1100 euros?
    7. The bronze medal may well be original to the bar. There was an article a while back somewhere about a Prussian Doctor (MD) who was a combat surgeon in the Union army in the US Civil War and then went back home during the Franco_Prussian war. He was given BOTH bronze and steel medals by the grateful Reich-and there were documents to prove it. it was odd-but odd things happen(ed). I'd leave it alone.
    8. um-that is a noncombtnt's ribbon. bronze on a noncombtnts ribbon? bronze on combat ribbon= fighting in France steel on combat ribbon=in uniform in Germany steel on noncombat ribbon=stretcher bearer in combat.....but bronze on nocombat bar?
    9. Nice badge! Only 3rd class had a wreath?! I learn something every day.
    10. and on a similar theme-off a recent auction i won -
    11. I know -and dislike-this family rather well. I believe there were two or maybe even three Buddenbrocks active in the Napoleonic wars. The chap you are looking for I believe topped out at Major and was elderly by 1850. The Almanach has extensive genealogy on these folks. A Buddenbrock grandson also surrendered Spandau to the Russians in 1945 as I recall. Buddenbrocks seem to have congregated in the artillery, although todays Freiherr once told me they were "always cavalry" (which I think was posing snobbery).
    12. Yes I do. Do you perchance have one about? I would love to see an example.
    13. See here: http://files.osa.ceu.hu/holdings/300/8/3/text/31-1-37.shtml
    14. It's a dig about german medals being mounted by certain firms in London-or at least sold therefrom. They also tend to follow British precedence and sometime British mounting styles. Alas, they are becoming more sophisticated, thanks to the internet.
    15. Looks like a classic-"this was put together for my wedding" bar-given the flowered arm on the mans' left and the flower drooping from the bar. I think you are right KVM-really, really interesting bar and picture.
    16. Once again you astonish and delight me! By the way-did you know there was a "Old Guard" medal for KISZ members who stayed loyal to the Communists in 1956? It was awarded at the 1960 conference- @ 150 times.
    17. wow-shame about that medal bar. Looks like an "London style" mount.
    18. wow. I think you have a winner. #1 is dead on, as is #2, #3 could be a reflection flash and #4 is so dark-who can tell for certain...? but it matches yours.....ribbon 5 in the pic has swords-as does yours, there's 2 LS awards in the right place and the last ribbon also seems to match! Also, there's the odd, if not unique double mounting...I really do think you have his bar.
    19. Yup-that is phillip. I'll dig out his email. Interesting about this archive. There were and have been rumors for years and years that the Russians hauled away a good chunk of Hess's department archives, including a complete duplicate master index of NSDAP numbers and party cards- as well as several Gau archives.
