    1. Yeah-a fantastic photograph. This one is another wedding shot-someone on a destroyer no doubt.
    2. Good Lord! Is that an official award? I had no idea Cuba even had a nuke program. Any thoughts on the ribbon?
    3. Congratulations!! So, i assume you either just won the lottery or are a hedge fund owner? Superb grouping. Can you fill us in on his career?
    4. OMG! NOW THAT is rare! Where did you get THAT???
    5. wow! Nice...a whole new field suddenly becomes attractive. The 12 medal bar-is that a senior NCO or @ Majors+ bar? Who would have worn the labour bar? Do you ever see documented sets?
    6. I can answer the last one from my own research-in all likelihood (odds 20:1) NO-no 25 year LS. Why? Because of what happened in Spring, 1943. But I doubt he had the Blutorder too, but there were exceptions. I do think he was in the party by early @ 1928 though and probably knew Rohm better than Hitler.
    7. WOW!!!!! NICE helmet. There are a couple of threads regarding this campaign medal. Almost unique for a German medal, they were issued named and apparently the Hanovarian muster rolls are still out there, just waiting for someone to transcribe them.
    8. I admit I know -zero- about WW1 era french ribbon bars, but those look US style to me. Many Doughboys went home with the French medal on their chests and got the WW1 victory rosette later. Wartime decorations for gallantry seem to have been worn ahead of all other medals, in spite of country of origin. The US military was a little more lax and sparse in these matters. The idea of ribbon bling was to impress girls and cadge free drinks when you got home. 99% of Americans were not and had no intention of being professional soldiers, so they were a little more relaxed.
    9. In a word-wow! Do you realize just how rare that bar is? @ 1941-42 I reckon....it screams somebody wearing a brown uniform in Bavaria and working for the state somehow.
    10. Having had a look at the list there are LOTs of rear eschelon Bavarians on it-"Stab of the Shiesschule" usw.
    11. Yeah- sometimes though it is overwhelming. If I am away 3 days or so there are @ 350 posts to look at and sometimes I miss the good stuff. That was one of them. Can you rebump the Kaffir war medal? I thought it was just the Zulus fighting at that time.
    12. A couple of thoughts- Perhaps status and luck/location. I note that a surprising number of staff wallah types got these and the same continues on today.
    13. See Knotels' arm badge chart-pp. 165 of Wooleys' Freikorps book. I think it's a "W" and that stands for Wallmstr. Esp. with the collar lintzen.
    14. Company level-as in the Oberlt./Hauptman made the determining recommendation and the Lt. Colonel or Major said "ja" and on up the line to confirmation.
    15. Superb- absolutely superb!! Any chance you would do an article at some point? Fantastic. I am very, very jealous.
    16. $75 EACH?? And you got it for $28! SCORE!! Any pictures of the Iraqi firefighters in uniform out there?
    17. As I recall they were a company level award and then confirmed. There are all sorts of non Prussians listed in the "EK2 List: 1914-15" booklet that Glen unearthed a few years ago. Some were really interesting-Lazarett NCos, train guys, navy bureaucrats, etc..
    18. wow! Lorenzo-have you called Symbol Arts? i wonder how many of these badges they made?
    19. what a fantastic picture!! Has anyone ever seen a picture of all three EK issues being worn at once by recipients (1870/14/39)?
