    1. It was issued by the Independent West Army under Colonel Avalov Bermondt (1919 Kassenscheine issue). They book at 3 dollars in the Standard Catalogue of world paper money. All the best, Paul
    2. The medal is by Antoine Bovy (1795-1877). Born in Geneva but became a naturalised French Citizen in the 1840 s to enable hinm to be an engraver to the French mint, this medal would have been produced around 1850. All the best, Paul
    3. Spanish and quite early (a few examples of the breast star have Cuban maker's marks). Paul
    4. Dear Milan, Thank you for puttting me right, Paul. PS there are a few Montenegrin items in M&Es July 3rd catalogue including a nice cased 2nd class Danilo set. Should be on line next week
    5. I have a feeling the Q.S. is Quartermaster's Stores. The F. P. could be a variety of things, possibly Frontier Provinces (Indian). The last is a guess but I can't think of anything else the Q.S. could be. Paul
    6. My experience is that many pieces are bought by people from the former Yugoslavia our from former Yugoslavians living abroad, this certainly was the case with many of the Serbian and Montenegrin pieces in ANS I (April 2006). A few even came to view the auction. So it isn't all doom and gloom for for Yugoslavians. Paul
    7. Hallmarked Birmingham 1919. The hallmarks looks perfectly genuine. All the best, Paul
    8. It is the the Memorial Medal for von Richtofen issued by the German medallist Karl Goetz. This was a particularly popular medal and was re-issued on many occassion, the later issues usually have the Bavarian mint name stamped on the edge as well as the finess. Given the popularity of the subject a nice example will make a couple of hundred pounds. Paul
    9. I heard late last night on the radio that the last K.u K. veteran of WW1 died aged 107. I did not catch his name but I am sure someone can fill in with more details. He was born in present day Romania and served in the last few months of the War. I gather he was known as the Emperors last soldier. Looking forward to hearing more. Paul
    10. It appears that the Khedive's stars were issued prior to the recipient receiving the British Egypt medal there is a Khedive's Star 1884 to 1870 Pte J. Murray 10th Hussars (engraved on reverse). While his Egypt El-Teb-Tamaai was forfeit due to desertion 19 February 1885. Does anyone know of similar cases? Paul
    11. It's not to a soldier but to a matelot, note the N.G.S. Palestine. As he has the Atlantic Star it is quite probable that he served on the Russian convoys, everyone who did received one of these if they were still alive in 1985. For once this looks like a kosher E-bay group and quite a nice one at that with two named medals. Paul
    12. Tony the badge itself looks OK but I think the pin is areplacement as they are usually silver not goldy colour. Paul
    13. I have the 1983 edition of Dorling and unless I'm not looking in the right place I can find no listing of any of the clasps army or navy. BB&M show all the Naval clasps as they were the only ones that were actually authorised. Paul
    14. PM me with you E-mail address and get it done in the next week or so. Paul
    15. They are all listed in the present edition of British Battles and Medals, available from Spink
    16. It is a commemorative medal, not an award medal and would have been purchased by collectors at the time, it is by Thomas Wyon, it comes in silver, bronze and white metal, it is not uncommon in white metal or bronze but is scarce in silver and is probably worth about ?150. Paul
    17. To me the last riband looks like the Order of the Wuerttemberg Crown military division Paul
    18. Enzo, When I can get the scanner free, hopefully later today or tomorrow I will oblige. Paul
