    1. Hi Sascha, you're right, what I meant was the large gilded medal is meant as a replacement for the smaller, proper gold one.
    2. I have a couple of the small silver ones, apparently they are scarce. I'd sure like to find one on a spange.
    3. Really interesting bar that certainly looks period. I would say the gold MVM is a spangenstueck.
    4. Great examples, Tom, especially the one on the spange. I've always thought this an underappreciated award.
    5. That's an interesting piece. I think it was popular for women to convert their husband's decorations after the war like this. I have an Iron Halfmoon which is similar.
    6. Chris, I was also bidding on those documents, and got a couple of the other ones. Let me know if you decide to get rid of yours, as it would be nice to reunite them at some point.
    7. Great grouping. The signature on the retirement doc is of course Heinrich Luebke, the president who one famously said to a crowd in Africa, "Meine Damen und Herren, und andere Neger" (Ladies and Gentlemen, and other Negroes", and who can forget his audience with the Queen, when he blurted out "Equal goes it loose!!", when in fact he was trying to say, "Gleich geht es los".
    8. If one were awarded the Landwehr-Dienstauszeichnung II. Klasse between 1895-1900, would one receive the medal or the bar?
    9. Did anyone else notice the huge 14er 1870 spange offered at Detlev Niemann? Quite remarkable and must be identifiable.
    10. That's pretty big money for this material, and why I as well didn't get it, especially since I am still in the hole for getting a Jasta Boelcke Fliegerjacke recently.
    11. Looks like the spange and docs group has been pulled. Hopefully the buyer of the aviation group managed to keep all together.
    12. I've been following this auction, and I thought at first the spange with repeat bar was put together. Then I looked a little closer.....
    13. The Elefantenorden was an official award, but the Loewenorden was unofficial. Criteria for award, I presume, was a period of active service in the colonies. The Loewenorden also came in a second class version, in bronze, on a ribbon.
    14. I also missed the St. Henry bar, one of the nicest Godet bars I've seen lately, and I've been looking for a St. Henry like this for years. Of course it also has the luxury Centenarmedaille.
    15. Very interesting, I think it was intended for mounting on a plaque or other commemorative. The first thing that came to my mind was "Polish" as well.
    16. That's great, Glenn, as I heard from the family, second-hand, that he was a recipient, but dismissed it as one of those "stories". I wonder why his HOHX is not on the spange?
    17. Thanks for that, Glenn, I actually have the original Patent for this. I was told that this officer was a recipient of the HOHX, but it is not on his Ordensspange.
    18. Very interesting, looks to be an 1830-40 period piece.
    19. Nice, I like these well-worn examples. I'm still looking for one of these, so keep me in mind if you want to unload it.
