to clear it a bit more, the TIME regulations for the Ehrenzeichen der Bundeswehr are the minimum time a soldier has to serve before he can get the fitting class of the award. Exeptions are just done in rare cases. I received my Bronze Cross as Feldwebel in 1997 after the flood at the river Oder. I just served 5 years and some months as I got it. If I would be "in" a year shorter I would have gotten the Medal. There is NO automatism to get one award like this. In the Bundeswehr You can a lot of the older NCO?s and staff officers with a Gold Cross, but the lower classes are more rare. For Foreigners it is a bit more compliated, as their rank plays also a role adn the time limit does not count. Generals receive the Gold Cross Staff Officers the Silver Cross Field Grade Officers and highest ranking NCO?s the Bronze Cross Enlisted men and junior NCO?s the Medal. Actually in service abroad a few selected members of allied forces can get the "Einsatzmedaille der Bundeswehr" (Bundeswehr service medal) for merits WITHthe German Troops. That a foreign soldier received a class of the Ehrenzeichen der Bundeswehr is indeed a rare case and although it is the lowest class it is still a high award. Best regards Daniel

...and to feed You a bit more.... Here are the award numbers actual known today. Still not completely done. I counted the awards mentioned in the FIVE DIFFERENT ROLLS for THREE states, took the sum, but what is most interesting is the last column. It shows the awarded pieces. Number is of course much smaller because of all that combined awards. Best regards Daniel

That bar drived me crazy since years. That it appeared now at ebay is amazing. Original or not I cannot say without a in-hand inspection. IF ORIGINAL - You have a Prussian GENERAL there. 1870 service EK, XXV, 1870 medal, SWA most likely steel, Centenary, Baden BZ3bXE also from 1870 and nothing else because everything else was around the neck or on a sash. Best regards Daniel

Hi Claudio, speaking for the combination, it MIGHT be that this fellow from Altenburg got a peacetime SEHO knight 2nd from Meiningen or Coburg and added a homeland Altenburg SEHO 2nd with swords. It can be, that in this case he would not have to return the peacetime one because it was a "foreign" award. Best egards Daniel

He, Experts, what is MISSING at the first bar??? 2x MEZ, one 1864 cross, 1866 cross but where is the 1864 war MEDAL???? On the first view a unthinkable combination. That is like a Veteran is wearing a well mounted bar with an EK 1870 and a Centenary medal but "forgot" the 1870 war medal. Best regards Daniel

I THINK with a Hessen court and state handbook will be a good chance. Ernestinian knight 1st class means at least a Captains / Majors level civilian Beamter. Hessen War time Medal (given to all ranks) plus the Jubillee plus a Hessen long service and NOHessen order makes me think he might have a Hessen Philipp as Officers pinback or Commander. Best regards Daniel

Hi Imperials, as all of You know, Rick L. is destroying his hands by tyyyyping award rolls. I cannot leave all work to him, so I - and other friends like Uwe - do the same here in Europe. Finally we will publish our work in some books in the well known Michael Autengruber - style. It HAS to be printed, any digital form cannot survive more than 10 years. I learn that just now.....Uwe wrote something 1994 on an Amiga computer - no way to put in on any modern machine. Means to type everything agaaaain - no ocr-scan did work without lots of mistakes.......... So, but... Soon will come out: - Princely Hohenzollern, known from Ricks thread - Sachsen Coburg Gotha, known from Ricks thread - Sachsen- Weimar, known from Ricks thread - Sachsen- Meiningen, known from Ricks thread - W?rttemberg - THE ORDERS - in WW1, Military Merit, Crown and Frederick with swords in WW1 - W?rttemberg - THE DECORATIONS - golden Military Merit Medal, Cross of Merit, Wilhelmscross - W?rttemberg - non-w?rttemberg decorations given to members of the W?rttemberg Army in WW1 - Saxony - non-Saxon awards to Saxons in WW1 ....and we plan to do more things, but thats all for the next months. This kind of award rolls will not be printed in quite big editions. There are just a few people interested in it. But, to estimate the needs a bit better, please let me know who is seriously interested in which volumes. As more as we can print, as cheaper they will be. Please let me know. Hopefully for Christmas the first Volumes will be ready. Best regards Daniel
