    1. Air Force Medal, Type I. Established in 1945. It was awarded to all Air Force Personnel on active duty during the war. 4,434 medals were awarded. The medal is silver with the French ball suspension ring. The Obverse: The center has the Polish Air force insignia, Checkerboard squares enameled in red and white. The insignia is surrounded by an oak leaf wreath. The Reverse has the words POLSKA SWEMU OBRONCY surrounded by an oak leaf wreath. The medal is worn on a pale blue ribbon with a white stripe near each of the edge of the ribbon. The medal is 36mm in diameter. It may be awarded up to four times. Each additional award is noted by the addition of a bar with oak leaves on it. Enjoy, Doc

    6. I strongly believe that Saddam's ODMs belong in a museum!!! There they could be part of a display about a terrible point in history. A warning to us all of the dangers of such a man. To be honest, I've held a grudge since the death of my friend and his ship mates lost on board the USS Stark on 17 May 1987. I would like to see his ODMs for myself or at least pictures from the display. I guess I could ask my friend, who does the SA medal research for me, to visit the museum and take some pics. Doc

    8. I don't know much about ODMs of the German States. However I am starting to learn a bit piece by piece. This Womans Medal is beautiful I look forward to getting an education in the ODMs of these States. Thanks for all of the posts, guys!!! Doc
    9. Thanks to Charles I now have two of these in my Astro-Hungarian collection. Republic of Austria This medal was established by the Austrian Republic on 21 December 1932 for all Austrian, as well as Central Powers, participants in the Great War. Soldiers who had at least 12 weeks frontline service or serious wounding could add a pair of gilt-bronze crossed swords on the ribbon as of 10 November 1933. Doc
