Stogieman Posted September 12, 2006 Author Posted September 12, 2006 Reverse. I don't doubt the authenticity.... but what was stripped off the bar?? Jubilee? MVO on statute ribbon (3. kl. in gold and returned... ??)Bummer...
Ed_Haynes Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Background sounds of quiet weeping. Yet . . . a piece of history . . . .
Stogieman Posted September 12, 2006 Author Posted September 12, 2006 Yep, pretty high grade of the St. Michael's Order... odd with the placement of the NC EK2. but everything looks right.
dond Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Rick, did it have a Brunswick KVK2 for nichtkampfer after the EK2?
Wild Card Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Hi Stogieman,Sad? I suppose so, but I really love these old guys with so much character. Have you ever noticed that for some reason, a preponderance of them seem to be Bavarian?I don?t find the placement of the EK as being so odd for a Bavarian bar, especially if the second ribbon is established to be Bavarian. As you know, the Bavarians and Saxons often followed this pattern. What do you make the last ribbon out to be? From the picture, I am guessing something Schwarzburg?Lastly, this picture raises a question which I?ve thought of in the past. We have all been through the multiple 1870-71 Prussian war medal awards; but I was wondering if (now don?t laugh Gentlemen, some decorum please) #1 was it possible under the regulations for an individual to receive the EK2 on both the combatant and non combatant ribbons and, #2 if so, are any such awards known? Best wishes,Wild Card
seeheld Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Hi Wild Card, the last ribbon is the Order of the Iron Crown 3rd class from Austria.Best regardsSeeheld
medalnet Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I wonder what was removed totally? Must have been something very special.
Wild Card Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Thank you seeheld. Of course, shame on me. Paul R - the first medal is the Bavarian Order of St. Michael, 4th class cross with crown. What is missing in the second place??? Stogieman - from the picture, the ribbon looks like the combatant?s EK, Red Eagle, Crown Order, et al. with swords - correct?Again (see post #6, above) I would like to ask if it was possible under the regulations for an individual to receive the EK2 on both the combatant and non combatant ribbons and, #2 if so, are any such awards known?
Guest Rick Research Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I have never heard of such a case, or seen any documentation for a double of the same class.
Stogieman Posted September 16, 2006 Author Posted September 16, 2006 I suspect something Bavarian, possibly a 3.kl. MVO in Gold...... I believe the EK ribbon you are seeing was simply the backing for what was once there..
Daniel Cole Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 If you made some assumptions as to what the second decoration was, can you link it to the first for an ID? I know it would only be a guess, but it could be thought provoking and maybe lead to other things. Is the last one the Iron Crown (assuming Peace Class) as mentioned above?
Stogieman Posted September 16, 2006 Author Posted September 16, 2006 Given the NC EK2, I would tend towards a Brunswick NC EAK2, although the ribbons are very similar.
HeikoGrusdat Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 I don`t think it is brunswick, these are the typical yellow and blue tones of the iron crown....
Wild Card Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 I don`t think it is brunswick, these are the typical yellow and blue tones of the iron crown....I have to agree. My first thought was the Brunswick cross also; but the ribbon, while similar, is not correct - no yellow side stripe and the blue stripes are too wide. Of course, this could be a substitution; but in this case I doubt it.
Mark M Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 RickYou could always bid on this one:[attachmentid=54138]
HeikoGrusdat Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Mark that is a very interesting medal bar with a rare combination!!! Is it yours, do you know the original wearer???
