Jeff Noll
Here is an "After" photo. A good shelling would really tear-up a trench.
Jeff Noll
Here is another photo I can only caption as "Wet Feet" A commercially sold photo/postcard showing an unusual view of trench construction.
ccj
The photo of what appears to be Saxon Troops standing in water is very interesting. The NCO to the left looks to have special trousers unless they are completely soaked. The NCO in he middle looks complacent
Jeff Noll
ccj. I looked at the original with a magnifying glass and cannot read the shoulder straps. There is nothing on the back.
ccj
The soldier on the right appears to be wearing a 2 button Saxon cuff tunic.
Douglas Jr.
In the commercial postcard, most of the rifles are second line Kommisiongewehr M1888 (probably the upgraded 1888/05).

Hi, Soem regiments, early in the war, when transfering from the Western to Eastern Front had tzo leave their G98 behind and were kitted out with G88 for their fighting on the eastern front. This was true not just for Landwehr etc. but also for fuly active units.

ccj
Very nice photo Chris... I'm sitting on the porch drinking a triple scotch on a beautiful 80° sunny day wondering why there isn't much activity on the forum. Summer is nearing and I suppose some people have better things than to participate. I'm reading Sherlock Holmes and maintaining watch over new post. I've seen many nice photos on eBay lately but have lost every one of them...

GreyC
Hi, may I jump in? No further infos available, but I think interesting enough with rifle-stand and some kind of thrower? Also metal blends with loops. GreyC

Chris Boonzaier
A war face??? That is the Face of a guy driving to work, knowing his wife is using the computer to order Birthday presents for the kids.... and not being able to remember if he had erased his Browser History before he left home that morning...... :-)
