That's incredible. You would think they should have gotten something else, just for VARIETY.

    To all:

Here is a nice wartime photo of the gentleman in post #4 above - Sergeant Major S. M. Zolnikov. The other quint "For Valor" winner was P. I. Gribkov.

Maybe we have an answer in posts #7 and #8 - The Order of Glory. Had it not been for that, the man in post #7 might well have had four ?Za Otvagu? and Sgt. Major Zoinikov six! At the same time, had the Order of Glory been in effect from June of ?41, some of these ?Za Otvagu? could have been Glories.

    Just a guess.

With the glory series being instituted in 1943 it isinded a possibility. Alhough you'd still wonder - why not a red star or two?

    It would certainly seem so.

Wrong side of the uniform, or was the negative developed backwards?

    Darrell,

Wrong side of the uniform. In your reversal of the negative, the words "For Valor" are now reversed.

In the development of this thread ;)

Of course four times is not as unique as five, but still pretty rare and amazing case.

Exact number of four times cavaliers of Medal for Valor is not known.

Quite often you can hear number 38 (you can find this list below), but I think the actual number must be much higher (we will add two additional cavaliers for this list today ;)).
