    Hello,

These are enlisted man's shoulder straps from the Prussian Reserve Pioneer Company Nr.81. It was identified as part of the 79.Reserve Division in 1917-18. The division spent that entire time on the Western Front. These straps are the 1915 pattern, which was introduced with the new (Bluse) field uniform in September of 1915.

    Hi Newbee,

    1) Welcome to the forum!

    2) We are flexible to most things and a post in the wrong place is better than no place at all... dont worry... be happy!

    3) Incredibly sexy boards!!! Nice find!

    Best

Chris / Chip thank you very much for your replies very much appreciated and amazing knowledge base. Are these rare or are they fairly common things ?

    Hello Newbee,

There were 649 pioneer companies by the end of the war, so I would not say they are not rare by any means. Of course, they are not as numerous as infantry or artillery examples, but still, they are quite common. Just as an example, I have forty eight of them in my collection, not counting trench mortar (Minenwerfer) units, which were also part of the pioneers.

Chips thats a serious bit of collecting. I dont think people generally realise that history is being preserved by individual collectors around the world amd long may it last ! I personnally dont think we ever really own any of these items we are simply custodians and should take care of these items until the next person picks up the torch

This was so reasonably priced even with postage I took a crack at it. A very well worn Bavarian Leib Major. This weighs a goodly amount for its size. I like to think it was on the overcoat of an officer who was active near the lines.

    Good evening gentlemen.

Interesting shoulder boards. I feel reminded of Mr. Curchills "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat." (and yes, I know he said this within the context of the next world war on 13th May 1940, but the wearer of these boards seems to have given just that, as so many others already in WW1).

¿ Why do you think that ?

because of the huge size - compare with the regular tunic boards

    Dear fellow collectors

Here are my shoulderboards. They belonged to an OberLeutnant in the 33th prussian Feldartillerie-regiment ( 1. Lothringisches).

    Kind regards, Laurentius

@ chip - beautiful boards! I just marked the ones I would like to have with a cross. Also what exactly are those two boards which I have marked with a question mark? Please let me know. Thanks!
