Megan Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 (edited) Next the 1945 version (which Yuri calls Type 3 - hence my comment earlier): Edited May 7, 2007 by Megan
Megan Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 And then the 1970 version:Would appreciate some help to sort this lot out, please...
Ed_Haynes Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 (edited) Megan, A few points:-- The 1926 version is small star, no number (post 125)-- The 1931 version is large star, numbered (post 126)-- The 1970 version is the post-1970 (?) type 2.1 of the post-1945 varietyYuri's stuff is, generally, good, but for Things Mongolian stay with the winners, this very site and forum! Best images, best information! (Wish Yuri were here.)There has been more good word done here (even with some core participants AWOL or just "strayed") in just a few months, than everything done previously. And, as I have said, the malignant disinformation of earlier sources becomes increasingly clear through what we've done here.Soon, we shall have more information, and it will be here first, and only (until someone steals it). Megan Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Yuri has been out of circulation since the end of 2003. Whether he got caught up in business - the 'Netdialogue' site he was hosted on is an automatic translation/ISP/hosting service that's quite big in Russia - or lost interest for some other reason I don't know: we used to talk a lot and long before he dropped out he gave me blanket permission to use anything from his site. Really ought to try and track him down - did a bit of Googlefu this afternoon as it happens, got 2 or 3 business news stories about the company and a lot of links/credits to the medals site.As for information, I'm happy to stick with here - as you and some others are busy figuring it all out - and of course to throw in at least pictures that I can contribute.I shall go and amend what I've just posted in the light of your further information, for which I thank you, and then I suppose I need to start rooting around for stuff on the Order of Civil Valour... I think that comes next unless someone can tell me different. Please keep the information coming, folks. It's much appreciated and can only go to make my site even better!
Ed_Haynes Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 (edited) Great, Megan. The, for the Order of Literacy Valor and its successors, see:http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4242http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4236http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4243Guess I need to merge these threads, eh?Seek preexisting knowledge, Megan, and reinvent not the wheel, especially if that new "wheel" is square? new world Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 This thread has need quiet for a while Here's my set of Red Banners 1 through 4. William
Ed_Haynes Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Yes, almost "everything Mongolian" has been quiet. So many of these RCBs came out of the Bank, especially in the high numbers, that it is hard to know where we stand. For example, while probably no more than four or five "4" awards were actually made, specimens numbered up to 86 have been observed. When research becomes available, a lot of the higher numbered items will turn out to be unawarded Bank 'escapees'. They'll still be of numismatic interest, but will have no history. It will also be interesting to see how many of the actually awarded pieces were long service awards (most of them, I'd guess).Any documented "2", "3", or "4" specimens? So much to learn, so much to await from the research.

Bob Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 The downside, we all may have more unawarded orders than we realized (even on the old ones from 20's / 30's).UB - do you know if the vaults still contain any more stock? E.g. supposed hero star?

E.g. supposed hero star?Definitely not. Maybe only badges of 15 anniversiary of people's revolution. They have only one Hero star, one+ one marshal's stars, Suhbaatar order with hat (first hero) and samples of other orders (one pcs of each). Person who is responsible for treasure of Mongolbank is my old friend (but she didn't know about my hobby), I am a banker too... Edited November 20, 2007 by ub6365
Bob Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Sorry for shooting more questions (we're all just very curious ) - does Mongolbank also maintain archives on who was awarded what, when, etc. or is that maintained elsewhere?
new world Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Mongolian Central Bank received approximately $223,000 proceeds from the sale of 1,200 awards.Interesting to note that Combat Red Banner 1939 2nd award was priced less than CRB without numeral ($600 vs $855).William
ub6365 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Sorry for shooting more questions (we're all just very curious ) - does Mongolbank also maintain archives on who was awarded what, when, etc. or is that maintained elsewhere?Definitely not. Mongolbank holds only items (state property) with preciuos metals (gold, silver, platinum). As I was informed some ministry also have some stock of jubilee medals (for example Mongolian CIA has some stock of Khalkhin gol medals with number more then # 60.000) Archives can be found at adminstrative dept of President (who has only right to award orders and medals) or State Archive (what I am planning to do). It would be great if I can find at least a list of awardees by some orders and medals.
Ed_Haynes Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 It would be great if I can find at least a list of awardees by some orders and medals. That much will, I think, be coming fairly soon, as research opens up.
