Klaus P. Schad
Hi Chris, wie geht's ? Thanks for your response. Your card was definitely from St.Btl.5(Rohr) and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Stenay used to be the HQ of Crown Prince Willi. IMO, Julien's card was stamped with a leftover from Abteilung Oberrotweil or from the "Sturm-Lehr-Abt." of the 12. Ldw. Div. which was also garrisoned in Oberrotweil. There is no St.Btl.5(Rohr) stamp on that card. Klaus
The Prussian
Hi guys! Thanks a lot for your help! "Brief-Stempel" is possible, but does it make sense?
Chris Boonzaier
I do not have a huge selection but on the cards I have 2.3.16 B.S. Sturmabt 11.6.16, 7.6.16, 16.7.16, B.S. SturmBatl 29.10.17 S.B. Sturmbatl. 5 (Rohr)
juju1418
Most of my stamps with full text said : Brief-Stempel Some example : Some Soldaten-Briefstempel: And FeldpostBrief: I don't have any Soldaten-Brief in full text. For Sturmbataillon Rohr I have these stamps: 8.10.15 7.2.16 B.S. Sturmabt 25 and 26.7.16 9.2.17 B.S. Sturmbatl (training troops) 28.8.16 17.1.17 B.S. Sturm-Batl (real "members" in combat unit) And at least two more stamps I don't have : B.S. Sturm-Batl (Rohr) and the one about the Haubitzbatterie
The Prussian
Hello! Then it´s Briefstempel. Thanks a lot!!! Here are a couple of my "Sturm-Stamps"... The last one only says "Sturm-Trupp, Feldpost-Station 951" The field-post station belonged to the 6th bavarian Inf.Div. An extract of a larger group taken on the occasion of a visit by the Crown Prince to Sturm-Bataillon Nr. 5 at Beauveille on 12 May 1917. juju1418
A new one possibly linked to the Sturm Bataillon: The text seems to say: Sturm-Kanon-Abt des Sturm Battl 5 Armee Never heard about a Sturm-Kanon-Abteilung
The Prussian
Salut Juju! An interesting photo! I just wonder why they don´t wear the leather patches upon the trousers... The Sturmbataillon 5 (Rohr) had an Staff, 5 storm-companies, 2 MG companies, 1 trench-mortar company and 1 howitzer company. This was the former Infanterie-Geschütz-Batterie N°28, which was attached* to the Sturmbataillon. The Ersatz came from Ersatz-Abteilung/Gebirgs-Artillerie-Abteilung 5 and 6 * probably because of that they don´t have the leather-patches... Xiphophilos from Flickr transcipted the text: "Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit bei der Sturm-Kanon(en)-Abt(eilung) des Sturm Battl 5. Armee im Westen Kriegsjahr 1914 15 16 17 Dein Bruder August English translation: In memory of my time of service with the Assault Gun Section of the Assault Battalion 5th Army in the West War Year 1914 15 16 17 Your brother August" Indeed it is strange with no leather protection and boots. I don't understand the presence of the sabers either (I am trying to identify them to find out if it can help to understand). The designation of Sturm-Kanonen-Abteilung is really strange, I knew IGB or Haubitzen-Batterie but never heard of this detachment under this name. Yet the guy clearly indicates that he has been there and he must at least know the name of his unit... Edited September 17, 2022 by juju1418 misspelled something "haubitzen"
The Prussian
Hello Juju! Well, the Ersatz-Abteilung/Geb.Art.Abt. 5/6 was one unit. Formed in Waldkirch/Breisgau (Baden) Feb., 28, 1917. So the guys might wear the prussian artillery-sabre. Because he wrote "14/15/16/17", the photo might had been taken in 1917. That fits to the set-up of the unit.

AlbertR
Hello, I recently bought von Schwerin's well-known Sturm-Bataillon Rohr monograph. The book also contained a photograph and "Melder Nr. 1". Was this photo added to the book as standard? "Melder", I believe, was not added. Have any of you come across other issues of "Melder"? Do you know how many issues came out? https://m.fotosik.pl/zdjecie/67db98ac7585855d
