pinpon590 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Hi gentlemen ! My last acquisiition is this nice Reuss War merit cross, boxed : The pin has been replaced, but this is a very nice award !
pinpon590 Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 Now, I can show you all the Reuss awards for WW1 : On this picture, you can see : - The war merit cross, boxed. - The 3rd class cross, with X, of the cross of honour order, also boxed. - The medal for devoted service in wartime. - EKII and silver medal with swords (cross of honour order) - Silver medal (peacetime) of the cross of honour order. Now, I have to search variations of the cross of honour order !
paul wood Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Very nice ideed, especialy to have Merit Cross with case. If you were a Prince of Reuss and you had a son you didn't have to worry about working out what to call him, daughters must have been a pain. One can imagine the family schloss, " can you stop doing that Heinrich, no not you Heinrich LXXVIII but you Heinrich LXXXIV" Paul
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 That is nice... I am guessing the war merit cross is the scarcer of the bunch? Or is it one of the others? Best Chris
pinpon590 Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 (edited) That is nice... I am guessing the war merit cross is the scarcer of the bunch?Thank you !Yes of course !I think the Reuss War merit cross is one of the rarest merit cross...If you were a Prince of Reuss and you had a son you didn't have to worry about working out what to call him, daughters must have been a pain. One can imagine the family schloss, " can you stop doing that Heinrich, no not you Heinrich LXXVIII but you Heinrich LXXXIV"PaulYes, I needed a lot of time to understand the succession of all princes of Reuss... redeagleorder Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Very nice rare award, particularly cased. One can imagine the family schloss, " can you stop doing that Heinrich, no not you Heinrich LXXVIII but you Heinrich LXXXIV" On the other hand, you can imagine the joy of shouting 'Heinrich, bring me a bottle of schnapps!'
pinpon590 Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 Does anyone have any idea about number of awards for this cross ?I think the number must be low, but I don't have found a number...Thank you !
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Would be interested in seeing a photo of it being worn... is it for all ranks?
Beau Newman Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Nimmergut shows 366 awarded although, I don't think that is gospel as the records tend to be incomplete. It went down to, at least, lieutenants since O'Connor notes that 2 fliers received it.
Dave Danner Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Nimmergut shows 366 awarded although, I don't think that is gospel as the records tend to be incomplete. It went down to, at least, lieutenants since O'Connor notes that 2 fliers received it. It was awarded to all ranks, although I have yet to encounter an enlisted recipient. We will never know the numbers with certainty, as the military records of Reuss Younger Line were destroyed in an Allied bombing of Gera in World War II.
VtwinVince Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Very nice collection. I am still looking for the Reuss Kriegsverdienstkreuz.
ccj Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Thats a beautiful award, one Ive been hoping to put into my collection for some time. I'm always too late. Congratulations...
