Now, I can show you all the Reuss awards for WW1 :

    sam0708r.jpg

On this picture, you can see :

    - The war merit cross, boxed.

    - The 3rd class cross, with X, of the cross of honour order, also boxed.

    - The medal for devoted service in wartime.

    - EKII and silver medal with swords (cross of honour order)

    - Silver medal (peacetime) of the cross of honour order.

Now, I have to search variations of the cross of honour order !

Very nice ideed, especialy to have Merit Cross with case.

If you were a Prince of Reuss and you had a son you didn't have to worry about working out what to call him, daughters must have been a pain.

One can imagine the family schloss, " can you stop doing that Heinrich, no not you Heinrich LXXVIII but you Heinrich LXXXIV"

    Paul

    That is nice...

I am guessing the war merit cross is the scarcer of the bunch?

    Thank you !

    Yes of course !

I think the Reuss War merit cross is one of the rarest merit cross...

Nimmergut shows 366 awarded although, I don't think that is gospel as the records tend to be incomplete. It went down to, at least, lieutenants since O'Connor notes that 2 fliers received it.

It was awarded to all ranks, although I have yet to encounter an enlisted recipient.

We will never know the numbers with certainty, as the military records of Reuss Younger Line were destroyed in an Allied bombing of Gera in World War II.
