Jani Tiainen Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Dear Friends, I have been lucky to be able to find and get the biggest collection of Soviet awards ever collected in Finland. The person who built this collection started buying Soviet material already in 1980's and when Iron Curtain was lift off, he did it heavily. As we know, good quality fakes approached very quickly, but in 1991/1992 they were not yet available. As I go deeper in to these files I may be able to track the year where certain items have been sold (as originals of course), but I also ask your help with the authenticity of some items. I will post now some examples what I have got: I would be grateful for all the comments, 1.) The Order for the service to the Homeland in the armed forces of USSR. 2nd class with award booklet for all three classes. Looks good! All the best, Janihttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-06917500-1397558745.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-13373400-1397558699.jpg
Jani Tiainen Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 2.) The Order of Glory, so called border reverse type. I believe this is reproduction. Notes say it was purchased from Estonia in 1997. #473 http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-94066400-1397558963.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-06486400-1397558922.jpg for comparison: the same variation I had had couple of years ago.
Jani Tiainen Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) 3) The Order of Kutuzov 2nd class with document. Also in the document: The Order of Red Banner Kutuzov is copy. There is no red banner with this number in the collection. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-25180100-1397559404.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-60253900-1397559444.jpg Edited May 13, 2014 by Jani Tiainen
Jani Tiainen Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 4.) This is tricky: The Order of Red Banner "4" I can clearly see this award has had loop, that is removed and screw added to the reverse. There might be something done to the number as well. But is this 100% or reproduction or did someone make the later variation "4" to look alike old type? The price difference is huge, so that is possibility. Anybody? http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-97412900-1397559688.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-61684000-1397559721.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-33624100-1397559761.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-54923200-1397559795.jpg
Jani Tiainen Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 5) This is nice, Lenin, screwback (T3, V2 at Mondvor) http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-21868100-1397560034.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-52183500-1397560065.jpg
Paul R Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Damn... some of those are pretty scary when it comes to rarity. I look forward to seeing the comments on the 4 ORB.
Bob Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Are you looking to sell any pieces from this collection? Anything with a mongolia or albania connection?
Jani Tiainen Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 Are you looking to sell any pieces from this collection? Anything with a mongolia or albania connection? Jani Tiainen Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 (edited) Some early badge of honours and and one early Order of the Red banner of labour... I will spend a lot of time with these during next weeks... Sorry for some blurry pictures, these were taken only for inventory purposes. I will get better if needed. Red Banner of Labour http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-97288300-1397653477.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-19775900-1397653549.jpg Badge of honour PB 4753. I did not find any type like this with straight Mondvor mark. I guess its no good sign... http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-72437200-1397653610.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-37562300-1397653676.jpg Badge of honour 28825 http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-71880200-1397653811.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-00822800-1397653903.jpg I have not had time to examine these carefully Edited: After searching variants through Mondvor I found problems with all, especially the first Red Banner... Jani Tiainen Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 This is reproduction, however quality is good. Red Star, 1st type http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-63820300-1397654137.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2014/post-1035-0-51923900-1397654177.jpg
JapanX Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Looks like this "collection" is not that "nice", Jani. Fakes (post #2-3) + (at the very least) doctored orders (post #1, post #4) Cheers, Nick
Jani Tiainen Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 Looks like this "collection" is not that "nice", Jani. Fakes (post #2-3) + (at the very least) doctored orders (post #1, post #4) Cheers, Nick Thanks, I totally agree - however I have only went through 20% of the items. There are a lot of "not-so-rare" but original stuff like Friendship between Nations, October Revolution, dozens of Orders of the Patriotic wars and so on - but also a lot fakes eq. all the partisan medals. I will keep you posted. Jani
Aleksander P Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Moi, Are the confirmed original ones going to be sold at Finnmedals? I'm interested in Orders of the Red Star and wartime Orders of the Great Patriotic War.
Jani Tiainen Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 Hello, Checking these items has been quite a job and I am still in the middle of it. The ones I dont want to keep myself will go. Just send me a message if there is something special you are looking for. Right now I am in struggle with the Suvorov 2nd class...and 1st class of the "...for personal bravery" - the latter is most likely good, unissued... but Suvorov... I cant decide...
Jani Tiainen Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 Suvorov 2nd class with doc - awarded to unit, not for person. I will post some pictures now and more tomorrow. I assume its fake, but I cant make decision since I am novice with the documents and order itself looks good - for me it looks like mix of two variations, not exactly like any pictured in mondvor, but still something I need to check from better experts. It is gold. Jani
