dedehansen
"VON MARÉES"? von Marées sounds good, I found him in the 1872 Ranglist with AAB3aX at this time serving with Anhaltinisches Infanterie - Regiment Nr. 93. ccj
That's a superb Dragoon Lt, sure looks like a Bavarian Pilot badge. (Or observer?) Beautiful colored visor cap
jaba1914
He is an Hptm not an Lt. It is a bavarian aviation badge. Regards Alex
ccj
I thank you for the clarification on the rank. I haven't studied the should boards to see if rank or regiment could be determined. If my memory serves, there are NO Bavarian Dragoon regiments. I don't know if the flieger unit he is attached to is Prissian or Bavarian. I find it off he wears a Bavarian badge. If anyone knows more it would be nice.
Söderbaum
Hi There was an Rittm from DR 16 who served in FFA 69, could it be that Regiment ? There were several Saxon officers within that unit but no Bavarian to my knowledge. Gunnar
jaba1914
He doesn't wear a bavarian uniform, look at the buttons. Like ccj told, there are NO Bavarian Dragoon regiments. I don't know why the bavarian crown is in the top of the badge. Regards Alex
Mattyboy
If he is wearing the Bavarian observers badge, then he should appear in the book 'Abzeichen und Ehrenpreise der Fliegertruppe 1913 - 1920' by Carsten Baldes. Unfortunately I do not own a copy of the book, but the answer might be in there....
