Colin Davie Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Not sure if this will work, never put a video on a post before. There is a trad. badge shown on this short film, it's 32seconds into the film which is only 2:35 long anyway. Not sure which badge, but it's a good clear shot. Cheers C

Never saw that done on the forums yet. Pretty cool! Regards, 2dresq
Erik Krogh Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 A recent acquisition, U-48 traditions badge. No vet provenance, but the picture and badge appear to have been in the frame for quite some time. Love the photo in the frame. Teddy Suhren, Heinrich Bleichrodt, and Erich Zürn, apparently before Suhren and Zürn were awarded their own RKs. I love Suhren's recounting of how he received his initial RK, as told in "Ace of Aces": Bleichrodt stands ready to receive his RK from Dönitz at Kerneval in Lorient. Bleichrodt tells Dönitz that he will only accept his RK on one condition. Dönitz is taken aback, and asks what the condition is. "I'll accept mine as long as my IWO, Suhren, gets his RK as torpedo officer, otherwise, no". After Dönitz consults with Endrass and Endrass says "yes", then Dönitz agrees that Suhren should also receive his own RK.

Erik Krogh Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Another recent acquisition. A framed portrait with a U-164 traditions badge.
2dresq Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 You do have a wonderful collection of badges Erik K. I am envious; but also in awe of the way you have displayed them so tastefully. Congrats on the new additions. Regards, Justin 2dresq

Congrats on the new additions. Regards, Justin 2dresq Thanks, Justin. Those two framed badges came that way. I'm assuming that they were done by the vet or family, but as you know, one never knows the real story behind handmade artifacts unless obtained directly from the family. Erik
Martin W Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Some really nice additions to your collection Erik. Great stuff! Regards,Martin.
Erik Krogh Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 U-1192 traditions badge. The number 13 descending from an umbrella. "13" was used for many boats whose numeric designation added up to 13 - good luck, I guess.
Erik Krogh Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 10th U-Flottille stickpin. I purchased this at the SOS this year, and the seller gave me a copy of Detlev's COA. This stickpin came with a U-170 traditions badge very similar to the one I purchased from Detlev as well as photos of the crewman. My U-170 trad badge (posted earlier in this thread) came with the doc grouping of Willi Prediger.
François SAEZ Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I had this one as KM but I can not identify it, any idea?
storage133 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) Hello Francois, nice item. I never saw this befor. The right letter could be an "L" i think. Unfortunaly something is missing on the left side of the star. Maybe some letters?! Hope you find out what it could be. Best regards Sto Edited March 31, 2010 by storage133
John R Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 My only example. A farily common one at that for a training boat, 777. John
Erik Krogh Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 U-877 engraved cigarette case. Although not a cap badge, it is the logo pictured in Georg Hogel's book. I picked this up recently at the SOS. Although there are a lot of eBay fakes out there, this one seemed to ring true and I took a chance on it...
Jesse Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Tradition badge for U-237. I just picked this up yesterday at our LA County twice-yearly militaria show. The seller is a well-known KM collector who said he originally purchased the badge still sewn on to a cap, but the cap was so moth-eaten that he had to throw it away. Fortunately, the badge survived... Hello Erik, Do you remember the name of the show in LA county were you picked up the badge? I live in the area and am looking to attend. As much as I hate too, I may be selling some of my collection. I would of course like to attend this year as well. Thanks Much and nice badge - Jesse
