Hi,

here is my only Landwehr service dadge, a bavarian 2nd class... as you can see, the wearer adapted it a little, its not how it was supposed to be worn....

Thanks! If an officer got the II Class Prussian landwehr Dienstauszeichnung in 1910, the 2nd one you have shown is what he would have had on his bar right?

In 1910 he would´ve been awarded the brooch version, the medal version of the 2nd class was only introduced in july 1913.

was there a swap? i.e. when the medal was introduced, did officers trade the brooch for a medal? The medal bar in Question is from the 1930s with Ehrenkreuz, and I cannot remember seeing bars with brooches that late ?

I don´t know, if they received the new version for free or if they had to buy the medal.

I wonder if the pinback was for Civilian wear? It looks to be a jeweller alteration?

An interesting award document of the Landwehr-Dienstauszeichnung II. Klasse, presented 25 Januar 1902 to an

Obermatrose der Landwehr I. Aufgeboth, by the Königlichen 55. Infanterie-Brigade.

Remarkable, a Navy sailor received the Landwehr Clasp via an Infantry Brigade....

Would he have received the Baden Clasp?

What is he difference between the Hessen Landwehr II class, and the Prussian Landwehr II class last models??  Besides the ribbons 

Were awards actually made by the same official company??

I read von Hessenthals' book on the difference in lettering on the reverse. Still a little confused as the Prussian LandWehr II classes that i see on the dealers sites don't necessarily match the book. I learned something new which is always good.

never figured out if they were sweetheart (the luxembourg oak crown is engraved to a guy) or for civilian wear of some sort, but here's some more of my 'side collection'....the hanseatic is a beaut
