order_of_victory Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Here are the best I could do, its hard to get good pics because the flight reflects off the medal ReverseOrder of Victory
Bryan Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Gerd. This is a copy. The details are not crisp enough.
Paul R Posted February 13, 2007 Author Posted February 13, 2007 Can you please post a photo of the rim?RespectfullyPaul
order_of_victory Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Can you please post a photo of the rim?RespectfullyPaulHi PaulWhat exactly do you mean by the rim Order of Victory
Paul R Posted February 14, 2007 Author Posted February 14, 2007 The edge... any casting marks around the rim?
speedytop Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 "Dietrich Herfurth Sowjetische Auszeichnungen 1018-1991" said, that there are 2 variants, in silver and silvered.Look here as well:http://www.mondvor.narod.ru/MOhrGran.htmlFirst my bar with this medal
speedytop Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 And here is the medal separated, averse and reverse:RegardsUwe
Gerd Becker Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 OoV,i have pointed out my biggest concerns about your medal on the picture below. The better pictures untunately confirmed my doubts about your Medal. Compare these areas to the original medals posted on the MONDVOR website (see link above in Uwe?s post)I really hate it to be the killjoy, but i think, you deserve a honest answer.Get a real one, while they are still affordable...all the best,Gerd

Gerd Becker Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 OoV,, i am glad, its okay. The glint on the opw is very simply done. I made it with a little Gif-program named Animake, and it wasn?t a problem at all. If you want something similar, let me know...Gerd
Belaruski Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Hi! Opinions please!I didn't realise this was so heavily faked, is mine ok?
JimZ Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 (edited) Belaruski - I would say the lack of sharpness in the lettering as well as the little blobs of metal in the letters on the reverse are evidence of probable casting which are not seen on originals. I do not like the suspension ring much either and the obverse seems rather crude. Cast perhaps? As for these medals being commonly faked, already in 1997 PMD and PJS already said that good fakes of the medal existed. Its 2007 now.......!Pocheta - I cannot say for sure in your case. Reverse would help. However, there may also be some cast marks and lack of detail.....but the glare in that photo..... Jim Edited February 16, 2007 by JimZ
Bryan Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Belaruski , I got burned like you when I first started. Your medal is the same as my casted medal that I have already bought. As Jim said, there is a lack of sharp details and the ring is too crude.
Ed_Haynes Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 That is, unfortunately, part of collecting Soviet ODM in today's world. One reason to stick with dealers who know (and guarantee) their stuff and to consult friends (here) who also know their stuff.
Belaruski Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 True enough. I bought this one probably about 10 years ago, at a time when I presumed only the 'big ones' were faked. But as I said you live and learn. I have a few fake top orders that I'm happy with as good display items, and this will have to join them!My budget is now slowly excluding me from Soviet stuff!

There's always peeps to help you out in here Jim
