Thanks for another great addition to the Signature Database. Always good to see your contributions.

Kevin - the signature database, along with citation databases are for me amongst the highlights on this forum. Until recently I thought, the whole forum had possibly passed its sell by date - so little activity, I didn't bother posting any more, however recently, it seems to have got its second wind, I intend to be adding to the index. Regards

I think a lot of forums have down periods and some have stronger sections than others, but thanks to yourself and others the signature database is a real credit. Aside from some of the pinned threads your Sachsen-Coburg signature is currently the most viewed thread in the database, some 120 views more than the second most viewed signature.
Keep up the great work.
Best Regards

Hi Graf,
You've really opened up a can of questions, but I've contacted one of the authorities on the Royal Order Kansli and he gave me a quick heads up one the various models.
First of all, the categories referred to in Künke's catalogue is not correct i.e. the Order being instituted in 1772 and being the 2nd model. The presumption that this Order originates from the "Swordsknightorder" of Livland instituted 1197 is from a Swdish publication from the 15th century and this story has been cut and pasted through out the years. The Order of the Sword was instituted 1748 and the first type had a small crown between the cross arms (image#1, I had to use a Northstar for illustration). Around 1802 a larger crown was adopted and placed above the tips of the cross arms on a scharnier (image #2). I'll get additional info from my source, but apparently there were about 8 different designs between 1802 and 1832. The transformation to a different crown attached with a built in hinge on an ornamented "holder"?) occured in 1860 and the balls on the edges of the arms 1856 (image #3), although these balls have been found on earlier pieces as well. There were also tiny enamel dots on the crown.
So where does that leave your cross? If we look at the crown it's a dead-ringer for the crown found on the 1847 Olov Orden. Well, IMHO your conclusion seems to place it around 1850, but I'll forward the image and see what I can find out.
cheers

Hi, I contacted you a few years back regarding your NI political posters? I was wondering if you would be interested in selling any or all of them? Kind Regards Ryan

Hubert grove, I found your post on here whilst searching for info on Arthur Cecil Clarke. My mother has the same photo of him. Her father was Cecil's cousin (Bernard Clarke) and my mother, Janet remembers Cecil, Lottie, Margaret & Sylvia well.

Dear JapanX
I am Japanese award document collector. I usually find your reply to post on the Gentlemen Military Club Website.
I am looking forward the hand-signed by Japanese emperor award document (any of the 3 emperor). If you have them, do you want to sell them?

Hello Peter
Im hoping that you may have information regarding my uncle Albert Conquest. I understand from your post that you have his medals in your collection. Do you know of any detailed report of the incident, or anything else of interest?
Im planning a visit to his gravesite in the near future and would like to know a little more about his life.
All the best
Sally

Hello Sally,
The only info I had I posted on site. There is information on the Armed Forces Memorial ( If I remember correctly) Sadly I no longer hold the medals as I sold them along with the rest of my collection. I was later contacted by a collector via this site, he had purchased them. He is a member of this club but I cannot remember his details. I can tell you that the group of medals consists solely of his KPM,BEM and Colonial MSM. The others I had put A War Medal, Defence Medal and Palestine Medal with the group to complete the correct group however these were copies and were no longer with the group when I sold it. I think if you put out a general request via this site the current custodian may well contact you.
Sorry I cannot help further but wish you well in your quest.

Hello Graham,
I've been looking at the 'tin hat' photo again & Grandpa's face does look fuller. Would it feasible that he 'retained' his uniform & dressed up in it at a later date? I have viewed some of his wedding photo's taken in 1926 & he looks the same as he did in the Commission photo.
I have found a photo of him taken in 1938 which shows him with a fuller face and gained some weight.
Regards
