    1. I'd wager he was in the navy and then the merchant marine and navy again. Could there be a Belgian list of life saving awards from 1900-10 perhaps?
    2. Interesting- I had wondered what the odd symbol was exactly-now I know.
    3. early 1945, Axeman awards EKs:
    4. Jeff Floyd will know more, but I thought there was a compiled list somewhere of foreign recipients of US awards.
    5. here is one of a Brigade staff meeting a white Russian general and staff in the Ukraine in late 1918.
    6. apparently already underway in Germany by at least 2 people. My garbled Cd roll is sitting awaiting review next year. In the meantime, I've had the great fortune been drawn/invited to another, more ... ... exciting project. Note this medal bar didn't use the hooks, but was sewn in. I'd wager 50p that the wearer was in the navy somehow and later went on to a merchant marine career of some sort. I spent some of last week literally sitting in a dank reading room that reminds me of the Hogwarts library. But what I have found so far is very, very cool.
    7. I have a few tidbits more scattered about. Things have been refiled into plastic boxes since the rabbit arrived.
    8. I agree with the hooks theory- It makes little sense on what was a custom made piece for double hooks to be there unless they supported a larger planchet. I' think its a Baden civil merit award.
    9. another award-eastern front: #1
    10. 5 minutes walk!! That's 15 minutes total there and back (with 5 minutes to answer the question). You gotta go!
    11. So a really useful ribbon for a medal that will show up soon I am sure- a good buy!
    12. I got a red cross bronze version (as illustrated above) this week. Some of the older photos have evaporated into cyberspace over the past 2 years sadly. Just to confirm-is this the Hungarian Red Cross Merit Medal: bronze class? Rakosi era? The enamel work is superb-as always.
    13. I just saw this:magnificent!! By the way-is medal #4 (from the left) a munitions workers' medal, the uberrare one? Stogie-perchance do you own this at the moment? if so.....
    14. Very NICE!!! I assume that was worn by a senior NCO? (in the war-an officer later maybe?). I don't see any officers' orders on the bar and whoever he was, he was in the army from @1911-1920. I haven't seen that early bravery medal on a bar before. What does the leaf on the ribbon mean? It's a wonderful piece. Do you know if the bravery medal rolls are still in the archives in Serbia? Thanks for showing this to us. Please show us more.
    15. here's another one-bad scan (sorry) but it's three piece construction, appears to be silver and cold enamel and says: " BM RENDOR TISZTHELYETTESKEPZO ISKOLA", so I presume the "Rendor Memorial Police and Security school"?
    16. Sgt. L: I think that this is a private silver-plated piece and may be unique. Now if he'd just engrave his name on the rims.....
