    1. Don't Danish orders get sent back to the Palace after death? I don't like it, but you never know.
    2. Not Ho-but maybe General Giap. My guess is Dungxiaping, but he would not have worn a military unirom.
    3. In my paws at present. it came with a series of other photos to officers of IR21. I thought HHox too, but then reconsidered as there's no crown on the device (and none of the IR21 officers seemed to have this medal except the Max Jospeh owner). The "21" is clearer in the photo than my scanner snapshot., but there is a "10% chance it could be only a "2". Sigh- Always label photos.
    4. Did railway employees earn a HK? I thought civs never got the HK medal, despite other war time awards.
    5. No joking- Worth, Belfort, the bombardment of Strasburg and lots of provincial ops. I have never heard of before. Great piece of history.
    6. Bloody right!! That is a wonderful bar! Any idea where Baden's troops were in 1870/71?
    7. I have spent the better part of a day attempting to identify this officer, a Major of the Reichsheer @ 1922 (I assumed) in Bavarian IR21. I have eliminated Glasser, Lust, Dumlein, Hofl, Kalbfus, Reitzenstein, Thater, Schuster, von Lutz, Kniess, Karl, Siebert, Lang and have no medal information on Korbitz. Yet I am running out of options here. Does anybody have idea who this chap might be? I read his bar as : BM4xmKr, EK2, (?I thought Saxon Albert Order, but now not?),OM3k,Luitpold, BD2. Thank you for looking-
    8. This is an unusual Baden document. But to my surprise the paper has watermarked leters in it. When did watermarks begin to be used?
    9. But you could take it to a jeweler and get the enamel repaired. It would protect the historical integrity of the piece. It is a nice navyish" bar by the way. A real shame.
    10. I am somewhat certain that the middle one-lower row is Congolese.
    11. I have always understood that the rosette signified "under fire" in 1914. I was told this by an "Old Contemptable" himself in 1974/75.
    12. Actually, I too have been watching this auction. Surprisingly, there are some "big" medal names here that I recognize. People who should know better. It's made me take a second look.
    13. Serbian 'First World War Commemorative medal, established in 1920 awarded to all those who served in the war, including Ministers, MPs, volunteers, nurses, foreign military missions, Montenegrans and of course, all Serbian troops. The ribbon was red/blue/white.
    14. Brilliant!! Well done. Ohm-Hieronymussens' book has a few docs in it. Given that there were @3300-4000 crosses (2nd class) awarded 1917-23 and only 398 1st class-you might well be able to reconstruct a majority of the medal roll-certainly for the 1st class (esp. if we cross ref. with other sources). i tried to attach a scan of the doc, but it was too large. I shall try to email it to you.
    15. Admiral Hezlett in Armagh-the Linen Library collection (central Belfast) and the Queens' U. sociology Dept. .
    16. There is also the SooChow creek medal, the Naples medal, Cinncinatus, vast numbers of GAR medals, the Southern Cross of Honor and other "Confederate Society awards, Indian tribes, the MOLLUS, Hereditary Society medals (some of which are very, very, valuable), the VFW and American Legion badges and best of all-the Order of the Cootie.
    17. Perchance do you have a Lt. Ernst Rosenhainer, 12 L.I.R. 32 awarded the 1st class on cross on 4.4. 1918? The 2nd was awarded 11/13/1915 while he was with the IR 96, 3rd Company. Details from: "Forward March":White Mane books Ltd. 2000. It is highly likely his daughter has his award documents.
    18. Well Done!! This is a really fun thread. A fascinating story and worthy of an article in Medal News!! See the link below for a bit more technical information. http://www.german-navy.de/hochseeflotte/sh...xcruiser/greif/
    19. THAT IS A GREAT BAR!! Please do not 'restore' it. It is magnificent as it is. May we see the documents?? Please? Where did you obtain it? In 25 years of collecting I have never seen an original WW1 enlisted soldier's bar.
    20. Although I never met him, I read many of his articles, especially his ones about veteran association medals. He was a scholar and a gent.. As Stogieman says, we are losing many of the 'giants' of the field. My condolences to his family.
    21. The trio was once mounted, but the South African ribbon disintergrated so I had to replace it. SA to PTE 3643 E. Pewsey Wiltshire Regt. BWM and Victory to 767 PTE. E. Pewsey. I assume the Defense medal was for 1940-1944 service. It's my "Dad's Army" group.
