    1. Lorenzo-do you know what #4 is?
    2. The triangle one is the November, 1963 commemorative medal-to celebrate the Ba'athist coup d'tat. See the OMSA database for more information.
    3. The last one is the WW2 service medal-for service in the Iraq army during 1939-45.
    4. Well, the top one is the superbly made (Hueningen?) Iraqi flood medal and the bottom one is the Arab-Israei war campaign medal. I have no clue what the Saddam one is but my guess is that Lorenzo will want it -reaaallllly badly.
    5. The pictures at the top were taken at one of the Nuremberg rallies. You can tell by the tinnie they are all wearing. I think it is 1938. Given his rank and the medals, I suspect with a little effort we can locate him....if I could just find my RAD books. The officer on the right wear an EK2/HKx/Silesian eagle and the RAD LS medal.
    6. Wouldn't it follow the usual Nazi-era ethos of combat awards first, long service and then civil awards?
    7. This picture popped up on a tourists' blog last month. In it, a Cuban veteran of Africa wears a VERY unusual medal-the Ethiopian Derg regime wound medal-2nd row down. Really cool.
    8. The Reaalllly cool thing about that set is the Luftschutz award. That is most unusual.
    9. I seem to recall a long time ago the Maikafer discussion with Verkuilen Ager. NEAT documents. Wasn't there also a traditions badge?
    10. ...and potentially research-able too I think....with enough time. the BMVO and the early NSDAP entry narrow the field to a VERY small category of men- in the low @ 100s at most.
    11. Paddy!!!! That is superb!!!!1 :jumping: It was often used as a form of "House order" by the Emperor. Many, many imperial Guard officers received this class -and not a few foreign advisers (including Irish UN troops) too! If you ever wish to part with that tasty tidbit.......
    12. Wasn't Torsten in the NVA MPs? He can probably help. I'll contact him at the WAF.
    13. OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!! :jumping: What a SPLENDID European medal! Do I read that right-an offcier aspirant type -what does it mean? I would LOVE to see the documents!
    14. At the last Lowell Show i went to- (December?) I picked this up (@1960?):
    15. Outstanding!! Do you have his file on-line? That explains EVERYTHING!! Ah! Neustadt!
    16. Is that "wulf" with an umlaut? Something near Coburg?
    17. Kev: Maybe it is time to start advertising in the newspaper? "Irish historian seeks...pays top cash" etc?
    18. That's the theory-but there were obviously exceptions here and there-hence the "exact count" by Kleitman. Chris. B. is the author of the black/white ribbon for auslandsdeinst and this seems to have been backed up by some language in a book I have. Still, it'd be nice to have a specific regulation or directive to point to-or documented groups as proof positive. I too have seen the Ludwig cross/black/white EK2 combo and while some seem to be "newly made" combos-others are not as this photo demonstrates. Now, if we could just figure out this mans' career.
    19. Outstanding! Yes, please post close ups -you never know who might look in.
