    1. well...I live in hope. The book ranges from decent to awful. But I want that citation.
    2. The lower one looks ok to me, but I'd like to hold the top one. If that KVKx bright ribbon is brittle/dry (and it looks like it might be) then I'd buy it.
    3. Isn't emedals Eugene Ursevals widow? I thought she was selling off his collection. Or is emedals someone different on eBay?
    4. That seems to be a well made piece. I have this one that I picked up at a coin show that people thought was a Chinese fake-but was a bring back. It's thin and obviously made in cruder circumstances. I have always wondered how people got some of their awards. there are thousands of ex VC in the USA now and I'd love to talk to some of them about how they got their awards.
    5. well...it makes you wonder doesn't it? It is very beautiful, but it is odd. Kev?
    6. whoa- THAT is an interesting bar. The aeronautical medal is pristine. I have never seen one before. So- an air force Colonel/General?
    7. Welcome Shams- try McGill-their computer and math department are excellent. When I was a wee chap my next door neighbor was Skinners' last commander- Colonel Grey. He was a very decent chap and gave me some of his old gear. I have one of his turbans in the attic. He had amazing stories of lance charges against sheep stealing tribesmen. He had a great life and I think I was lucky to have known him.
    8. whoa- ...still, the sad fact is the fakes are actually better quality than many of the BRD and US awarded medals today! :speechless:
    9. Good information, Kev, but the more I dig in ancestry, the more I find is questionable. Payne's book must be treated with GREAT caution. Payne used many of the interviews found in the NSDAP archives- many of which were heavily colored by their POST 1933 timeframe. The Zeitgeist after the Machtergreifung was somewhat "different". Some of these interviews are just plain crap and Gutmann for example, wasn't even with BRIR16 until @ 1916 as I recall. I have problems with BOTH books (Weber and Payne) at this point but IMHO Maser should be treated with a "prove it to me" mindset.
    10. The book itself is almost a day by day "diary" of events. Mobilized: August 1914. 6th army Northern France Sept. 24. 1914- Jan. 31, 1916. Mostly around Cambrai. Interestingly, on March 31, 1916 the Bavarians ordered home all 1871 veterans for 'Munich' service. 3 NCOs and 51 men who had served in 1870/71 went back to Munich! By Sept. 1916 the battalion was near Thiacourt and from Sept. 16-30th was in St. Mihiel Oct. 1916- May 1917 on the Maas ridge between Spada and St. Mihiel: Oct/November 1916 at le Mont (between Apremont and Loumont). 14th landwehr Brigade. The battalions companies seem to have been used as augmentation reserves for varied units- 2 Bav. Id etc.. May, 1917-April 17, 1918-Army Group Herzog Albrecht of wurttemberg: 6th Cav. Division. "Stationary battles in the Vogesen). June/July 1918: Stationary battles in Flanders and Artois. Reserve Corps and 9th and then 4th Army Corps. July 29th-August 5th 1918- Marching by foot from the 6th to 2nd Ar,y, thence to the 17th Army in August, 1918. Mostly around Douai
    11. well, prince Phillips' family antics during the Third Reich were problematic.
