    1. 922f The French Army model of Epaulettes in 1914 was rather confusing. basically there were 1 epaulettes for Subaltern Officers ,sublieutenant to captain; 2 epaulettes for Field Officers ; Commandant to Colonel . 3 epaulettes for Generals . the 1 were of two types, with 10 cm long fine loose fringes and without fringes . the Sublieutenant carried two fringeless epaulettes one on each shoulder. the lieutenant carried one fringeless on the right shoulder and one with fringes on the left shoulder , the first lieutenant at the inverse . the captain two fringed epaulettes one on each shoulder. The 2 were as follow : for Commandant (Major ) one with a fringe of 7cm long cords bounded together and the other ,on the right shoulder ,fringeless. for Lieutenant Colonel the two epaulettes have fringes but while the body of the epaulette was in metal colour as the button one the fringes were in the oposite metal . for Colonel there were two epaulettes with fringes all in button metal colour. The 3 were gold epaulettes with a thick rigid fringe . equal for all the Generals .the distinction was marked by the silver stars carried over ,from two to five . finally ,the Adjutant and Adjutant Chief carried also Subaltern Officer Type epaulettes but with a red line running through
    2. I forgot to say that : his rank is showed by the epaulettes . right shoulder a fringeless one , left shoulder a epaulette with short 7cm long fringes of thick thread . all in gold . or in silver for Cavalry , Chasseurs a Pied and Chasseurs Alpins.
    3. I agree, his collar badge is the so called Foudre of the Etat Major The foudre (thunderbolt) was authorized to use by the Officers Brevetes de Etat Major after two years of studies in the Ecole Superieur de Guerre.
    4. Hello Ar Ho and the Prussian ! the second pic shows a type of recruit not unknown in the Prussian Army specially in East Prussian and Pomeranian Regiments . they were Polish yes but also Kashubes, wendes and Pruzzi all with a certain Asian mix or better slavic . The Austro Hungarian Empire was more ,much more interpeoples sic . your pic reminds me a paint of Alexander Pock of a AH Uhlan .
    5. Peter I suggests you to visit tartansauthority. com there is a list of tartans weared by British or Commonwealth units . regarding the Murray of Athol tartan its more plausible than the Douglas tartan of the Natal Mounted Rifles
    6. The Elliniki Vassiliki Aeroporias or Royal Hellenic Air Force existed from 1935 when the Monarchy was restaured until 1973 when it was abolished. before 1935 it was named Helliniki Polemiki Aeroporias or Greek war Aviation . The uniforms of the Royal hellenic Air Force were very RAF style. the colour ,grey blue , the badges ,the cut , the accesories etc . the badges of rank were also british type excepting that the Officers cuff lace of rank was topped with a rhombus , probably Italian influence. The personnel weared peaked caps also British type and sidecaps as the one that you show. the unit badge I am not able to say to wich Mira belonged your sidecap appears to be of fine quality and nearly unused . period of use ? or WW2 time or Civil War era 1947 1950.
    7. The Prusian , Knotel and Sieg Uniformkunde contains reliable data about Chinese uniforms ,either Imperial or post 1911
    8. My pleasure ! the crowned ones were of King Alfonso XIII reign .one of artillery, the other of Military logistic , Intendencia Militar in Spanish. during the Franco Era a crown was used over the badges but was a open topped type
    9. Grey C, dont get irritated, the external politic of German Empire contain many surprises
    10. I vote for a Chinese officer serving in a Prussian regiment. exists a pic of 1905 showing seven chinese officers enrolled in the German Army sic . Alamy stock pics. Four of the officers wear double breasted tunics in light blue with dark collar and pointed cuffs .as headress kepi in dark blue . three wear mounted troops equipment with breeches and riding boots ,sash and bandolier in the Prussian style ,also Prussian Shoulder boards .a fourh wears long trousers and only sash, infantry style . Three others wear Prussian Hussars uniforms but with a special colbac, with a large Chinese Draagon as badge. If you observes well the Pickelhaube of the asian officer pictured ,the Dragoon is on it

    12. Gentlemen, please forget the possible Spanish star and the Edelweiss, Guards Armoured centered the salvo, I found that at least in the NZ Army the Eight pointed star was authorized to the Quartermaster Sargent Majors as proficiency badge on top of the arm chevrons
    13. Hello, the photo is from after WW1 , date , before 1926 , von Seeckt, the Crown Prince, von Mackensen and von Hutier. the ocassion , some parade of the Stalhelm
    14. I will say again the same, von Plessen was a General but was also courtier and Generaladjutant to the Kaiser. Always he was next to the Emperor including during William visits to other Monarchs , then , he received decorations or Orders most for Diplomatic or Politics skills. William II was a constant voyager either inside the Empire or out of It
    15. Hello, von Plessen was first of all a Courtier in the Entourage of William II . He and other members of the Military entourage of the Kaiser , Admiral v Muller and the equally Amiral von Sender Bibran were referred as the Hydra of the Military Cabinet. their Orders and medals were more political _ diplomatic than for war actions
    16. Marcon1 , I dont think in a edelweiss badge , first the edelweiss currently has nine petals, second are petals and not regular points
    17. The eight pointed star was and is in the Spanish Army a badge of rank for Field Officers. one star for Comandante, Two for Lt Colonel and Three for Full Colonel. Usually they were of about 20 mm diameter and braided in gold or silver thread over Khaki cloth . your star could be a Spanish Civil War era beret badge of rank for a Comandante ( Major )
    18. Yes ! the standard bearer portrayed wear full uniform with epaulettes and not cuff lace. the collar and cuff flap were black velvet piped red, the cuff itself ,blue
