    1. And for our Saxon friends, I do not think that I have posted this one before -
    2. Please read my above post. I owe you an apology and something worth looking at. Off to where some good minis live in the morning. I will be back soon -
    3. Saschaw, You are 100% correct! I realized when I bought the set that the ribbon on the mini was wrong, but attributed this to age... Here is what we should be seeing , correct ribbon and all -
    4. Not what it appears to be (Prussian long service cross) at first glance. Actually this is a Hessen-Kassel 25 year long service cross for officers. These crosses were awarded from 1849 to 1866, so there are not many of them around; and this is is the only mini of this award that I can recall having ever seen.
    5. This is great news! The auction house is to be complimented for presenting a bidding format under which this could be done.
    6. A beautiful piece! Congratulations.
    7. Assuming that this is correct, and I agree that this is the most likely possibility, would the placing of the silver merit cross with swords ahead of the silver military merit medal be correct?
    8. Exactly. That was my immediate first impression as well. As a matter of fact, I can not recall having seen one of these on a medal bar before. To Chris Boonzaier, et al. - There are collectors who can afford the entire lot. There are collectors, many of them among us, who appreciate the importance of keeping the entire lot together. The question is whether there is a collector out there who can afford the entire lot and who appreciates the importance of keeping the entire lot together.
    9. What a fantastic bar! Absolutely Can you tell us what off the bar orders make up this set?
    10. Yes. That business about the ribbon is very interesting indeed.
    11. I think that we can eliminate Mongolia.
    12. Hello Monkey, I apologize for this late response to your post but I just noticed it. Nevertheless, I feel that I should pass some thoughts on to you regarding this subject. I received my first Braunschweig Waterloo Medal as a gift over thirty years ago. As a result, although I would never consider myself to be an expert on the subject, Braunschweig has been one of my areas of interest ever since. That having been said, let’s consider the medal at hand. From the pictures, it certainly is a beautiful medal, isn’t it? As leopold pointed out in post #2, only two were awarded (some sources say three) and about ten were produced. Over the years I have seen a number of them offered in different venues. As a matter of fact, and I am not making this up, just a few years ago there were three on the market at the same time; and two of them had very convincing and “authentic” documentation! I don’t know, there may be an authentic piece, or two out there, and this may be one of them; but for me, at those odds, I’ll confine my gambling to Las Vegas... and life. Best wishes, Wild Card
    13. Very nice indeed! Congratulations and thank you for sharing this. Wild Card
    14. A very nice mini indeed, Like EK’s and a couple of other decorations in particular the quality of the minis can vary greatly in detail and quality and this is one of the best. Congratulations!
    15. :jumping: That has got to be it! Congratulations, mystery solved.
    16. Gentlemen, Although I suggested above in post #3 that medal #1 might be a gold or silver merit medal, now I am not so sure. First, the size of the medal bothers me. The gold merit medal is 28 mm. The medal in the picture appears to be larger than the Prussian 1870/71 war medal (29 mm), the Württemberg 1866 war medal (29 mm) and the Württemberg jubilee medal (30 mm). As a matter of fact, it comes close to the Württemberg long service cross which is 34 mm. Next is the ribbon. To be any one of the civil merit medals, including the medal of the Crown Order, of the era, it strikes me that the background color of the medal in the picture is just too pale. It should be just a bit darker than the background color of the long service cross. Okay, what is it? Is it not possible that it is not a Württemberg medal after all? I just cannot say, but I did find something interesting that felt I should pass on to you. In going through the ribbon charts, I noticed that the ribbon on #1 could very well be the old style, 1806 - 1818 Württemberg military merit medal ribbon - yellow background with narrow black side stripes. Incidentally, the ribbons on #1 and #6 appear, to me at least, to be identical. Could #6 be some sort of non Württemberg jubilee medal? Come on Gentlemen, I know that we can solve this one. Regards, Wild Card
    17. I do not think so. I am quite sure that the Russian Order of St. George has three black stripes, not two. Incidentally, this ribbon was later used by the Soviet for the Order of Glory and Victory in Europe medal.
