Erik, The buyer is one of the leading researcher and collector in the field of Soviet screwback orders. I would tend to think that he knows what he is doing Marc
Paul, What time-frame? Generally speaking, the standard red boxes should not be that difficult to find, with some variation due to period; now, regarding the velvet insert, I have only seen one offered for sale over the past 5 years... If you are after a hero box (HSL or HSU), the problem will be altogether different Marc
Paddy, I don't like it either. It has the strangest pebbling on the front that I have ever seen. some letters and the '2' are off on the back. Overall, quite a nice fake. Marc
Ed, I believe that this medal is no good. . Obverse: shape of the letters (especially 'О', 'Б' and 'Ж'), various small details in the wreath (especially shape of leaves), skinny star . Reverse: wrong letters and digits (especially '2', '4', 'К', 'Я'), skinny star . Ring solder not up to par, although the mint is known to have put some less than perfect ones in circulation... Marc
Guys, Talking about fakes, I was told by a reliable source that these (and a few other scarce ones) are being faked. Has anybody already encountered such fakes, or knows anything about their characteristics? Marc
