Mongolia ORDER OF MILITARY MERIT
Eric Gaumann replied to Vatjan's topic in People's Republic Mongolia
Are we getting any closer to getting some rough dates for when these were awarded? I'd like to get an approximation for my T1 V2 #1753. Right now I'm guessing 1960, plus or minus 5 years. I've got my MoC down to '55 +/-3 and my HLM to '54 +/-2 No clue on my Polar Star... Thanks! -

Mongolia ORDER OF MILITARY MERIT

Thanks JC! As an aside, after some searching last night I think I found some weights on Yuri's(?) site. Being in the Russian language it's a bit hard to decipher but it seems he includes size and weight there. And as Ed said elsewhere with all the variations and subvariations there can be discrepencies. But thanks so much for your help. -

One person's display, but certainly not one person's awards. -
Tips Appreciated

Here's one of my framed displays. It consists of a frame purchased at Michael's (an American craft store). What I like most about it is the fact that the frame is hinged, so I can take it off the wall and open it to photgraph items or fondle my collection. Here's a link to how I made this: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5600 I hope links to other forums are OK. If not I'll remove it immediately. -
Mongolia ORDER OF THE POLAR STAR

Just out of curiosity why was the OotPS awarded? Was it purely civil? Or military? Or both? Or neither? What Soviet order (or medal) would it correspond to, roughly? Thanks, -

Is there any documented, or even anecdotal, history of sword play in the Second World War? While I suspect there was some cossaks swinging steel, and the Japanese Army used blades with some notoriety has anyone ever heard of an actual sword being used in combat in WWII, especially on the Western Front? Since the British and the German officer corp were for the most part required to have a sword for dress situations I have to assume that at one point somebody must have unsheathed a blade during the heat of battle. Anyone ever heard of that? Just curious. Thanks so much,

Soviet Soviet Navy Docs

I'm sorry I can't help with identification but I do know that I like that group. Very pretty. -
Well "gunlayer" is, I think, the man who actaully aimed (or pointed) the weapon. Or perhaps the loader. It might depend on translation. In any event I'd guess he was a specific part of a mortar team. Or, when you put it the terms of lay-er and lay-ee a whole different explanation come to mind. But that's for a different thread.

Soviet Looking for these Numbered Soviet Awards
Eric Gaumann replied to Biro's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Gentlemen (and Ladies), There's an internet database started for either serial numbers wanted or serial numbers already in one's collection. Info here: "The missing orders database is finally ready, all are welcome to see and/or use it here: http://www.soviet-screwbacks.com, just click on "Orders Database" button on the left hand side of the main page. It functions in both English and Russian languages." I highly recommend reading "Terms of Usage" first, to get familiar with the concept. -

Russian Federation Opposition Communist Party medals and document
Eric Gaumann replied to Riley1965's topic in Russian Federation
Thanks for mentioning those organizations. I felt the same way but was afraid to say so without starting a flame-a-thon. I see no difference between the two organizations (Umalatova vs. VFW). Having said that I'll not voice my political opinion further and agree to just disagree. -

Nice pix!!! Thanks! I like the navy officer; he's got a set of whiskers on him, eh? Would that we could see the other side of his uniform... -
It's not Russian, but it's Soviet bloc: Still haven't shot this one yet. I bought this to replace a Walther PP that was stolen (and a *beautiful* Ruger GP-100). Happily the Walther was found and returned to me!!! I sure do miss that Ruger though.
