    1. "Please be aware that Captain Hogspear's warehouse and stock can have a country-house aroma" Geez.. this lot smells of manure, but it's not because of the country house... ? Note how the link to Reuters that should prove the provenance neither contains any photos nor any real description of the medals. Around the same time (2007) another lot of 'Saddam's medals" was for sale (by his chauffeur, I believe). Among them a knight cross of Danish Order of Dannebrog. Apart from the fact that Saddam was never awarded any class of Dannebrog, there is no chance that any head of state would be awarded the knight class.
    2. Impressive! What's the difference between decorations no. 5 and 6?
    3. "whp" was just a typo. I guess it should have been "who"...
    4. AT is for the manufacturer (Tillander) and 813H is for silver. Are there any other hallmarks?
    5. You are right. How very odd to be awarded a Commander's class twice... So if a gilt star on the ribbon represents the second award of the same class, how does one wear the full size decorations? Twice?
    6. I read an article on the Swedish blog phaleristica.com regarding the "US Medal of Freedom with Distinction" to Joe Biden. The article mentioned that even the sash version of this decoration was 'ceremonially' awarded around the neck (for the best photo op I assume). Could the same be the case here? Could he have been awarded the Chief Commander grade (a breast star) but ceremonially been given it as a neck decoration?
    7. Could it just have been imported into France (if - like you say - it was awarded to a French)? I'm not an expert in when French hallmarks were applied...
    8. There's a OBE in there too. Interesting that he had all the mentioned orders 'represented' on his breast bar, as I assume he was Grand Cross in all of them.
    9. I think we have them all identified... Interesting to see is that he got the Grand Cross of the Order of Dannebrog with diamonds (on the Dannebrog breast star).
    10. Just checked the Danish Court- and State Calendar. Dardel is listed as a recipient of the Pro Dania medal (the calendar normally doesn't list additional decorations to foreigners unless the decorations are Danish).
    11. You are of course right... it does have a crown suspension... Shooting from the hip here, but could it be the Danish Pro Dania medal? The position on the bar would be correct and it was often seen with Danish Red Cross medal. I'm sure there are many other possibilities... Photo from medal-medaille.com:
    12. Could it be the Swedish Silver Wedding Medal 1906 or is that too old? (photo from Liverpool Medals)
    13. Could it be the Saxe-Ernestine House Order? (I assume you - by 'this' - are referring to the decoration half hidden behind the sword handle)
    14. Interesting... if you play around in Photoshop with the black & white converter (Photoshop has separate sliders for R, G, B, C, M, Y and K), you can try to recreate how old cameras 'saw' colors back then. Most modern B & W converters just average the R, G and B values. Here is the result with less G, C, and M and more B compared to the photo from back then
    15. You may be right... at least there was one for sale on ebay described as "Lotta Svärd WW II Ski and Walking Badge 2nd Class"... Bear in mind, though, that that is not necessarily a correct description... just what the seller thinks it is... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Finland-Finnish-Lotta-Svard-WW-II-Ski-and-Walking-Badge-2nd-Class-Silver/114098519487
    16. The one with the blue enamel is a Lotta Svärd badge. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotta_Svärd
    17. Probably M and K and something like a 'shield', because M and K are very elaborately formed, whereas that one is not. Unfortunately , an M an a K is way too generic to google, so hopefully someone in here recognizes it...
