    1. I would second that! Burg Hohenzollern has a great display of medals in the Schatzkammer. Mostly from Kaiser Wilhelm I, Wilhelm II, and other von Preussen family members. Another get display is at Hohenschwangau in Fuessen, the tourist trap by Neuschwanstein. Awesome display of Bavaria stuff. Schloss Hohenzollern in Hechingenm has a nice but small display of Proncely Hohenzollern medals (small meaning I almost missed it in the tiny display case) All three are worth the trip if you're in the neighborhood. Dan
    2. That is a cast fake. But since you can't get even an unissued one here, I would have bought it to fill the spot in a project I'm doing. Why can't they just sell unissued versions with REPLICA stamped in the back?
    3. It says: Showa 17, January 11th (Showa 17 = 1942) Kanesawa (Perhaps the city the soldier is from) Manshu troop 121 Sasaki unit (Manshu = Manchuria) Tsubaki Unit, Fukada Kazuo (soldiers Name) Thanks to the Japanese Cultural Center at the Embassy.
    4. Wow! Sorry it's so large. Dan
    5. My wife's aunt was a US Army nurse in the PI during WWII. She recently died and in going through her old trunk I found this photo of a Japanese Soldier amongs other Japanese soldier photos. Can someone tell me what the description on the backs says? Thanks, Dan
    6. That Eagle is a beauty. I had a cased gold 3rd class once. Mine. I made this up for a project on v. Richthofen. All the medals have been returned to their original ribbons and boxes. This medal bar is no more....................
    7. Hopefully, I will win that auction. I have hesitated buying the book in the past because it can be very expensive. (even more so with the current dollar to Euro collapse!) Its expensive because of the Ernst Juenger connection to the 73rd Fusiliers. Thanks for the heads up Dan
    8. Can someone post an example of the award doc for this medal? I'm especially curous about those awarded to US servicemen in WW1.
    9. "There is also another FR 73 history I have with the title: Erinnerungsbl?tter aus der Geschichte des F?silier-Regiments Generalfeldmarschall Prinz Albrecht von Preussen (Hannoversches) Nr. 73 w?hrend des Weltkrieges 1914-1918, bearbeitet von Dr. Max von Szczepanski, Berlin 1923" David, I actually have that one all ready. It is a small paperback, but interesting. Dan
    10. This is the one I have been trying to find: Geschichte des F?silier-Regiments Generalfeldmarschall Prinz Albrecht von Preu?en (Hann.) Nr 73. I've seen it but loose the bids. Maybe more than I want to spend i guess.
    11. Very Nice bar. You know someone with some MS Access skills should be able to take those huge Excell files I saw of all the navy officers and their decorations, and run a query looking for an officer holding the EK, HOHX, Old, and HH and it should spit out an answer. Assuming the files are accurate. Unfortunately, I don't have that skill set. I've tried using pivot tables, filters, etc, but the files are too big.
    12. Does this bar look OK? I know the combination is possible because it matches the awards of a friends father (albeit Navy)who served in Scharnhorst. Thanks Dan
    13. Question, I thought Navy Good Conduct Medals, prior to around 1950 were engraved with the sailor's name and had the flat bottom at the bottom of the ribbon (like a USMC Good Conduct). I have a picture someone where as an example.
    14. Is the guy pictured in post 12 wearing a Gauleiter or political uniform? I see a Gold party badge.
    15. Is that third medal a Sachse-Coburg Carl Eduard Silver Oval Medal? It looks oval and doesn't it have a crown on top? JUst a WAG at it.
    16. Are those last 3 medals the Imtiaz, Liazat and Medjidie? Also am I correct that since there isn't a crown on the sleeve the KK is a non line officer type?
    17. Is it possible the third medal was a RAO that was returned to the Orders Chancellory after his death, then someone put something else in its place? Could the 2nd medal have been a Crown Order of some type? Interesting group.
    18. If I had to bet, I'd wager on Stuler as he was a German and predominace of German decorations. Von Schmidt was Austrian and Hittorf French. Assuming one can trust what one reads online. I'll be curious if I'm close or way off.
