I just spent four days in Rudolstadt and one in Greiz.

For Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and Sondershausen, I found the missing records for the awards with Eichenbruch from Sondershausen, and an index of all gemeinsam awards, with a note as to which version was actually awarded (different ciphers). I also got the rolls of the lifesaving medal and the medal for arts and sciences. There is no roll for the 1905 jubilee medal, unfortunately. Apparently, the award criteria was to whomever the Staatsministerium deemed worthy. There were recommendation lists from various agencies, but no indication which were approved. For the Anna-Luisen Orden, the wartime award for women for war aid, there are lists, but index onkly has last name and husband's title, so one would have to go through the individual recommendations to get the additional information. There were only about 300 awards, but I didn't have time to go through them. I still have to go back to Rudolstadt next week (I am in Dresden now) to go through several thousand more pages of recommendations and correspondence to get the missing information on swords recipients. There are still going to be gaps, though. Other units had to provide justification for why someone should receive the Ehrenkreuz, but IR 71 just sent lists with rank and last name.

For Reuss, the report is mixed. There is an index of non-swords awards through 1918, which I have, but there are almost no swords awards in that index (outside of some random awards with swords to Reuss government officials who were also officers in the Beurlaubtenstand). For Reuss junior line, the records of wartime swords awards were destroyed in a bombing raid in World War II. For Reuss elder line, the award files exist, but there are thousands of pages of recommendations, correspondence to determine eligibility, award documents, and receipts for awards. These files include all awards (Ehrenkreuz and associated medals to enlisted men) and also include rejected nominations. So one would have to slowly go through each document to confirm the award. I don't have time to go back there anytime soon, and it would take about a week to go through them all. There are no separate rolls or lists for the War Merit Cross, the pinback decoration, but some might be buried in the stack of recommendations.

    Regards

An update. I just returned from a month in Germany (and also France, Poland and the Netherlands).

For Schwarzburg, I would say I am 98% done. I have typed up all the swords awards of the Ehrenkreuz (1914-1918), all the Eichenbruch awards for the Ehrenkreuz (and for the Ehrenmedaille for Sondershausen; for Rudolstadt the records are imcomplete) and all non-swords awards of the Ehrenkreuz from 1909 to 1918. I haven't typed up the Order for Arts and Sciences and the Lifesaving Medal, but there were only 5 awards of the former and 20 of the latter.

For Reuß, as I noted in the post above, the war awards of Reuß j.L. are lost, and unfortunately j.L. accounted for probably 90% of war awards. On this trip, I got through about 3/4ths of the Reuß a.L. folders, and have most of the war awards through mid-1918 of the Ehrenkreuz and the Ehrenmedaille in Gold (with and without crown). Plus some silver medals to NCOs who were later commissioned. Some lists were missing, though. I still have the Reuß j.L. non-swords roll from 1912 to 1918, but have not had time to type them up.

I have gone through a number of Braunschweig award folders and compiled more than 1,000 awards to officers of the Braunschweig Kriegsverdienstkreuz, including 1.Klasse and Bewährungsabzeichen, but there is no master roll and more than half the award recommendation files are apparently lost.

I also now have the following new lists to hopefully be typed up by the gnome community:

    • Anhalt: Friedrichkreuz am grün-roten Bande (1914-1918)
    • Anhalt: Friedrichkreuz am grün-weißen Bande (1914-1918)
    • Anhalt: Denkzeichen für 50-jährige Diensttreue (1864-1917)
    • Anhalt: Verdienst-Ehrenzeichen für Rettung aus Gefahr (1851-1917)
    • Anhalt: Jubiläums-Medaille
    • Anhalt: Rote Kreuz-Medaille, China- und Südwestafrika-Denkmünze an Anhaltiner
    • Anhalt: Marienkreuz
    • Baden: Jubiläumsmedaille an Angehörigen d. XIV.AK
    • Baden: Bertholds- und Zähringer-Löwenorden (1914-1918)
    • Braunschweig: Orden Heinrich des Löwens, Medaillen für Kunst und Wissenschaft (1908-1918)
    • Braunschweig: Verzeichnis zurückgegebener Orden (1918-1943)
    • Lippe: Kriegsehrenkreuz für heldenmütige Tat
So a lot more work ahead.

    • 3 months later...

I read earlier on in this thread that the Schwarzburg Anna-Luisen rolls exist, but I don't know if anyone has them. Does anyone have them or the rolls for the Oldenburg 1907 Red Cross Medal?

    Thanks

For Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, there is a "Verzeichnis der Inhaberinnen des Anna-Luisen-Verdienstzeichens". For Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, there is a folder entitled "Verleihung des 1918 gestifteten Anna-Luisen-Verdienst-Ordens". One would have to go through the whle folder to get all the names, dates and other information. I did not have time to go through these when I was in Rudolstadt.

@ Ulsterman - the Meiningen awards of the Ernestinian House Order with sowrd in WW1 and the cross for Merit in War are included in our volume of all 3 Ernestinian Duchies.

@ Christer - as you did already a GREAT JOB with the Order of the Sword of Sweden I can´t wait to see your work about the Cross of Liberty!!!!

@all - there is not so much to type at the moment from my side - unless Dave Danner needs help!!!

I am im the last work to finish Mecklenburg Strelitz and the both Lippe´s for printing.

Württemberg and Prussias Hohenzollern and all the other projects go on but still need time.

If anyone wants to assist, keep youe eyes open on interesting groups, pictures, whatever additions to improve the existing information.

    lots of greetings

No problem to have the Finnish rolls , They are right now in Excel format with a lot of pictures

But I need to fix them a little to make them readable in English :)

Then I can post them to anyone interested , of course they are not 100% complete ( and will probably never be )

but I see them as Ia living document to be updated.

And I´m right now working on a Roll for Order of the Wasa to Germans , quite a lot of mostly civilian who got this.

    Christer,

I might have a bunch of names to add to your list. I know when I talked with Rick several months ago I had a lot of names which he didn't have on his list, which I thought was from you. Mine are mostly from Wehrmacht personnel files and from the Kriegsrangliste of the Ostsee-Division.

Wow ! That would be very interesting to have Dave :)

I have never seen the Kriegsrangliste of the Ostsee- Div so that would be a real Graal for me

I will have some free time during Christmas/New Year so it would be perfect if I could add some names

On the Ostsee-Division Kriegsrangliste, it is only for the division staff, not the units which made up the division. So not quite the Grail, more like a blessed coffee cup. Besides Graf v. der Goltz, whom I'm sure you already have, these are the officers shown with Finnish decorations:

    Thanks again Dave !

In June I had 20 names for Germans with FK3X 1918 and now I have 65 :jumping:

Most of the Bavarian Officers I had from Ancestry , but at least four names was new to me !

The somewhat mystery one is Bernhard Schwarz LdR who got a FM2 inspite of being an Lt ?? He would normally be awarded an FK3

Keep them coming Dave if you have more :love:

I dont have any numbers of FK3X given to Germans in 1918 , the only total I have is 509 FK3X 1918 and I have names on 152 right now ,

probably most of the missing ones is Finnish Capt/Majors . The search goes on
