    Hello,

reading Rick's "1870-71 War Medal Battle Bars By Units" I must start this topic.

At first a bar of an SL in 1870. He was wounded in Gravelotte and so he missed the following campaign...

    What was his unit????

    Hello Werner,

while surfing through old topics, I´ll found this one.

Is this not the group from Oberstleutnant z. D. Fritz Paul Ernst Kurt Erich

former Portepeefähnrich / Leutnant 4. Garde - Regiment zu Fuß ?

All of that service, highly experienced and decorated and only an Oberstleutnant? He must have had a lot of conflicts with the management? I would love to know the story behind his Lifesaving Medal!

On 8 August 1899 he and two NCOs, Schlegel and Dolinski, saved two privates from FR 36 from drowning in the moat of the bridgehead at Torgau.

So he rescued two men from drowning? That is really great stuff. Where did you find that citation?

God that's a beauty, Werner! My brain is older and more tired after 3 1/2 years offline. 1870's not "my" war, you know. A Reserve/Landwehr guy isn't on my Berufsoffizier radar that far back-- even more impressive that such a guy would get a 1914 EK Spange!!!!o

I don't know you guys, but when I re-read Rick's educated comments, full of wit and good humour, I get very sad, thinking that he's no more among us.... ((((
