Erich Adolf Haniel, *9.9.1878 in Münster. Erich Haniel and Martel née Junghann were divorced in October 1919. He was remarried in December 1921 to Ada Frida Felicitas née Wagner. He was promoted to Dr.phil. on 22.7.1922 by the University of Heidelberg (one of my alma maters), and was a Kaufmann in Nürnberg (through at least the 1942 Adreßbuch).

Ostrach is in Kreis Sigmaringen. Albert Müller was a Leutnant der Reserve in LIR 13 and received the Fürstlich Hausorden on 8.12.1916. If he also received the Königlich Hausorden, he might be the Lt.d.R. in IR 468, although IR 468 was a hessisch regiment and LIR 13 was westfälisch.

The notice in the Westfälischer Merkur was from Feb 1918, and the other one mentioned (Mettlich) got his HHOX just a few months, rather weeks, before. For Müller, I would think this notice cannot be about an award received more than a year ago.

The Lt dL Raven from IR 16 in our list was August Raven, Lehrer. We had him before in this thread as "August Rawen-Bochum", at that time it was not fully clear that this is him.

We have them both already, but this was an interesting article in the Wittener Tageblatt, 13.8.1934, about award recipients from Witten, which mentions the only two HHOX recipients from the town: Erich Landzettel and (Heinrich) Krumme.

The Lt dR Hellmich from IR 19 might be Philipp, from Bremen/Soest, acc. to VL.

Additional confirmation: Hellmich is Philipp, from IR 19, Lehrer.

The Wittener Volks-Zeitung, 15.7.1937, lists major German WW1 decorations, their award numbers and statistics, and some of the benefits that the recipients received. Of course this was taken from other sources, and known already here, might still be interesting to show:

According to these numbers, the HHOX was awarded 8,291 times, so every 40th officer got one. 850 recommendations were still unprocessed by the end of the war. So while the awards of both classes of the Iron Cross continued until 31.5.1924 (with 55,000 1st class and 196,000 2nd class awarded in postwar time), the HHOX was not awarded anymore. (Actually, in this thread, we have seen some cases which may have been exceptions, but even if these are true, they were extremely rare.)

The Pionier-Olt dR Dammann was "Königlicher Katasterlandmesser" from Berleburg. I couldn't find his first name.

Strange: Lt dR Hans Koebke - cannot find him in our list, nor in VL. Or is that an HHOX without swords?

He was erroneously listed as Köpke by the Militär-Kabinett. HOH3X on 12.4.1917 as a Lt.d.R. in IR 375.

Köbke, Hans Heinrich Christian, *23.3.1892 in Bordesholm, gefallen 10.8.1917 an der Susita bei Bisighesti in Rumänien.
Kaufmann in Hamburg; Commissioned on 22.5.15 as a Lt.d.R. (II Hamburg) with a Patent of 22.3.15 in Ersatz-Infanterie-Regiment Keller of the Detachement von Westernhagen. Regiment Keller became IR 375.

Regarding Henrici, both the Verlustliste and the 1900 Minden census (when he was a Leutnant in FAR 58), give his name as Hermann, so Heinrich is an error. He was born on 24.7.1876 in Posen.

There was a Hauptmann d.R. (RDA 1.4.39) Dr. Hermann Steinmetz who was Adjutant to the Stabsoffizier der Pioniere in the staff of OB Ost in 1940. He may be the Pionier Lt.d.R. Steinmetz with the HOH3X (and/or the WVK4X), but I don't have anything further.

Erich Giebeler is Erich Wilhelm Karl Hermann, *17.9.1884 in Mainz-Kastel. He was a Kaufmann after WW1 and an SS-Standartenführer in WW2, serving in the SS-Führungshauptamt. He received the KVK2X on 1.9.41 and was nominated for the KVK1X, but I don't know if it was approved. He also had the VAw.
