Red Eagle Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 I am searching for pictures of the house order of Hohenzollern, where be awarded in the house Doorn period. I would like to compare it with my Godet piece. Can anybody show some?Red
medalnet Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Not from the Doorn period, but I believe that Thies had a Eagle of the Knights for sale in one of his auctions in case with documents.
Red Eagle Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 Not from the Doorn period, but I believe that Thies had a Eagle of the Knights for sale in one of his auctions in case with documents. Why not, can you tell me more?Red
medalnet Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 I think he had that in one of his thinner catalogues listed, but I will check later.
David M Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 What is so specific about the Doorn periode? Are there any lists of the HHO awarded in this time? Were it just Knight Crosses or also other grades?David
Red Eagle Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 I believe that this is a cross from the Doorner period, because the Center is made from gold. The ribbon has silver lines. Usually there was only black white ribbon, the centers was made from silver.Furthermore it is appropriate into a red brown case with a Godet Logo.I compared the inscription with old adress directories. First time where Godet use the designation "Gebr. Godet & CO." was 1931. Therefore I believe that this cross was made starting from 1931.Red
medalnet Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) The case is indeed a late case, but are you sure the center of the cross is really gold? Should be bronze gilt. Edited August 17, 2007 by medalnet
Red Eagle Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) In my opinion the centers are gold. The bronze colouring in the lower cipher comes from an light oxidation.Red Edited August 17, 2007 by Red Eagle
medalnet Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Bronze gilt can look exactly like gold, is even lightweight. think of all those bronze gilt Ernestine House order 1st class badges with swords, people thing that they are gold, but really are not.....
Red Eagle Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 That can be, but I dont like to scratch the surface. When was the cross manufactured in your opinion? Did you seen already once a similar cross?Red
medalnet Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 I have not paid much attention to this topic, but remembered the Eagle of the Knights. It is actually pictured in Thies's 22.Auction page 36 #75:"Adler der Ritter, vergoldet und emailiert. Am Originalband. im Originaletui des Juweliers Gebr. Godet, Berlin.Schoenes einwandfreies Original aus dem Exil in Doorn. in dieser Ausfuehrung extrem selten.Zustand 2. 400"
Red Eagle Posted August 18, 2007 Author Posted August 18, 2007 Thanks a lot.Any Inhaber Crosses out there?Any other opinions?Red
Les Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 That can be, but I dont like to scratch the surface. When was the cross manufactured in your opinion? Did you seen already once a similar cross?Red"Red"You don't need to scratch the surface. Gold and silver in contact with each other can work like a battery. Put a little bit of lemon juice (Zitronensaft) on the surface with a silver coin on top of it. If you can measure the electrical current, a solid gold center can be enough to give you a slight shock to the touch. A surface layer or plating won't do much at all.Les

Red Eagle Posted August 23, 2007 Author Posted August 23, 2007 @Noor:I dont think, that this is a cross from the Doorn periode. It looks like a not verry old bronze gilt cross, like the crosses from Steinhauer & L?ck.Red
Noor Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 (edited) I am sorry Red Eagle. You are right, its Steinhauer & L?ck one. Edited August 23, 2007 by Noor
