rboomsma Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 (edited) Just want some opinions on this medal. In looking at it and authentic ones, the hammer and sickle and the text it seems to low.It appears to me they have taken one and removed the text along the top rim and cast a new one.As when I look at a foreigner version the hammer and sickle is closer to the top rim of the medal as is the text, where in the other two versions it is lower to accomidate the text put along the top rim by the ring. What say you??I have borrowed a photo from mondvor site to compare.Bottom photo is an authentic one top is ???? Alfred Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Hello Rboomsma, in my oppinion a fake. They simply erased the inscription on the top of the reversefrom a military or labour medal. But they done a good job.regardsAndreas
Gerd Becker Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I agree, its not good. Looks like it was casted from an original, but the pebbling is wrong and the letters aren?t sharp enough.
Christophe Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I agree : a good job of the fakers, but in no way a real one.Ch.

Paul R Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I bet that it was more expensive to make one of those than it would cost to buy and original... unless it is one of those for foreigners.
JapanX Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 ... unless it is one of those for foreigners. Yep. There have been times, when these have costed more than $1000 apiece
JapanX Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 (edited) How about this one? Personally I don't like it (for example take a close look at sickle handle, letter O in CO, number 1 in 100, star rays on 3 and 4,5 o'clock and compare them with reverse of original piece from MonDvor in post #1) Edited October 6, 2013 by JapanX
paul wood Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Is it possibly a privately made replacement for a lost original as the Russian versions are worth less than a packet of cornflakes.Paul
JapanX Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 ... as the Russian versions are worth less than a packet of cornflakes. If we are talking about "army" or "labour" version then even less But here we have a version "for foreigners" ... According to MonDvor (I wonder where they got this info) only 5000 were issued.
