Motorhead Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 When dreams come true....this little beauty dropped in today-one of these wonderful iron crosses with blued sheetmetal core!I can't remember how long I was searching for one of them-the last one at ebay was bought by a guy named "Funkjoker"-wasted time to bid against him......Anyway,here it is-rare as Hens teeth, unfortunately with a little rust but good enough to keep it in my collection! For me a highlight this year!Micha
Solomon Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Hi Micha, hehe, congratulation! Although I bid also on this fine little cross, I?m happy you got it at least But the next one is reserved for me...GreetingsSolomon
Scott P Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Hey MichaThe first time that Ive seen one of these!Good lookin cross. You are making it extremely hard to keep up with you on these hard to find makers. But heck thats makes the hunt just that much more interesting.Did you get that off ebay cause I dont remember seeing that one?mfgScott
Motorhead Posted August 18, 2007 Author Posted August 18, 2007 Yes,ebay this time.....not a bargain but less than a "JWS"-strange world,it's much harder to find than a JWS!Micha
joe campbell Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 heh-heh-heh....found mine in a TR dealer's "bargain box".$20....... (~4 years ago...)this is why i go through piles of 14 EK 2's:there always seems to be a surprise.joe
Scott Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Nice cross. What equivalent of silver does the 'silber' mark represent? 800? 935? Other? Thanks. Scott
Motorhead Posted August 19, 2007 Author Posted August 19, 2007 When I remember right they stamped "Silber" when the silver content wasn't high enough to stamp it with the "real" silver markings. That is what I've been told.......Micha
joe campbell Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 i, too, have only heard the explanationthat Mocha states.joe
Paul R Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 that Mocha states.joeMocha... I could do with one of those right now. Seriously, I have not seen that mark before. Great find!
Rod Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I have been told that the "silber" marking indicates the EK was made in Bavaria. I have no idea if this is true or not. I bought the EK from a dealer who presents extremely lenghty descriptions that I have come to believe it is all hot air.Rod
militaria0815 Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 When the silver content was less then 800/1000.
Motorhead Posted August 19, 2007 Author Posted August 19, 2007 So is the "Silber"stamping a german thing? In another thread we had someone who said the EKs with the blued sheetmetal core where made by Rothe&Neffe?Micha
militaria0815 Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Austrian silver marks are quite different.
Steve campbell Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 The rich keep getting richer! Very nice find.
gregM Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 "Funjoker" I have seen that name a lot lately. Any idea who he is?
joe campbell Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 sorry micha.my name is joe, and i'm a caffeine addict...
Bill Garvy Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I thought "joe" was another name for coffee.
