    1. My Gosh, he must have had a reenforced tunic to carry that lot about on him.
    2. Because Ed, odd things happened: like (nominally independent) Egyptian officers receiving the above medals as well as Jordanians too.
    3. He's not Jewish. Hes' ev. luther.-and I'll bet he was beaten up quite often in the Third Reich. He may beof distantly mixed (Mischlinger) heritage, but I thought they had a special stamp in their Wehrpasses. Had he been qualified as a Jew he'd have been disqualified for military service by the Nuremberg Decrees and never issued a Wehrpass.
    4. Yes I have-very nice and quite rare-@ $100+ these days. Ethiopia sent a small but rugged contingent to Korea. the vets association is still active and I send them $100 every year. The campaign medals were made in Sweden and England and are of .825 silver and quite nice. Haille Selassie was a staunch proponent of the U.N. and peacekeeping. Ethiopian troops also served in the Congo and in the Siani. Had the Emperor not been murdered battalions undoubtedly would have been inthe Congo again, Uganda, Sierra Leone, East Timor and the Balkans as well. There are ribbon groups out there as well- very, very special.
    5. I had no idea. I am appalled. Post-mortum you would think the UK govt. would at least strip him of his 'honors".
    6. ...so apparently Iraqi troops did not receive the 39-45 star and war medal from Hm government. Interesting.
    7. wow-nice collection. i know the name Sandor Kiss....from where?
    8. There are a number of fakes of these out there and apparently this knowledge is widely known in the BRD. There were some cryptic comments made last year about being able to spot modern repros by the enamelwork within the belt, but honestly , I am not certain what that's all about. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can tell us what to look for.
    9. Firemedals: awarded 1977 onwards: see CD's information here (posts 142-145): oops.
    10. Two good Masons in 2006 celebrating 50 years of loyal brotherhood at Lodge #144: Seaside, in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
    11. Interesting Hungarian manufacturers-as we have a couple of stalwart members in Budapest, perhaps a phone call or two might elicit some information as to pieces manufactured and when/where/how etc..
    12. Interesting. Does the old Baath part HQ still have personnel files? What happened to their archives? Do you know at all?
    13. Nice one Owain! By the way-was that a PLO Hero star on the other forum? Where were they made-the GDR?
    14. Both taken the latter part of 1918 too by the wound badge I reckon. A small contribution, with more to follow later:
    15. ...and that would leave out all extra-French veterans. too bad-sigh-
    16. Am I reading that correctly that the St. Helena medals' archives were burnt in 1871, but department archives are being collected to rework a list of recipients?
    17. Interesting, so did "loyal" Iraqi troops get the usual British war medal, 39-45 star as well? Should one consider the Iraqi war medal in the same vein as the Indian, Canadian, New Zealand, South African, Newfoundland Volunteer, Jordanian, Southern Rhodesian (?) and Australian war service medals ? I recently lost a deliscious Jordanian officers group on eBay (hidden away in coins and tokens of all places) which contained documents and a full bar including the Jordanian war and a 39-45 star and war medal, as well as Palestine GSM and other Jordanian gongs.
