    1. As I recall Rick L. often quoted a number of @ 6,700 EK2s awarded for service in the homeland on the black/white ribbon.
    2. QED: Speedytop! I salute you. You are right. A drei prost salute! The railroad one I have seen mounted on generic ribbons before. I assumed it was the same.
    3. another photo in wear:
    4. Gentlemen- Tempers! Keep it civil please. Stephen, I for one would appreciate it you went by your name here or at least sign your initials at the end of the post.
    5. Do a search on this forum. Many of these medals have popped up here before.
    6. Maybe, the lists exist even for the Finnish stuff, but alas, I do not think Rick answers random questions any more. It takes up too much time.
    7. I assumed that the one on the left was the railroad ehrenzeichen hand mounted (ones sees these sometimes), the one next to it is one of those funny private purchase regimental crosses and the one on the far right, although it looks a bit big, is the Wrtmbrn. service cross? Just identifying at a glance.
    8. Very cool-notice the unusual and one-year-only-and-to-few-limited-units white uniform issued in 1808/9!
    9. EXACTLY!!!! I am also now satisfied that this bar is the real deal. PKs' adroit counterarguments, filled with nuance and extraneous evidence have sealed the deal for me too I might add. The contra is so much weaker than the pro that my doubts and suspicions (and I am a natural cynic) have been eased.
    10. There are fakes of these-I have seen them in catalogs! I have never compared them. I wasn't even aware there were variations-but a new topic to look at closely. Anyone know if there was a BDOS article on the subject?
    11. Outstanding stars!! Outstanding!!
    12. I was waiting for Stogies' comments. Consider this-elderly Landwehr LtdL or Warrent officer. There were case of 1870 vets being recalled at this rank and I have pictures to prove it.
    13. OMG!! Just a LITTLE larger. One of the "medals is the trains long service award. Another is one of the purchase regimental crosses and I think another on the right hand lower medal bar may be the Waurtmbrgn. service medal. The rest are shooting awards and my Shooting awards book-presently boxed up in the attic, may be identifiable. Book is boxed up because wife is painting library-so stay tuned.
    14. Beautiful!! May we see close ups please?
    15. Depends upon the work. Translations of Harry Potter for example, abound in China, yet she can collect royalties only on the official and authorized publication.
    16. True, however in this case Hessenthal and Schreiber may fall under the legitimate war booty provision of law and the subsequent laws of the occupation forces which confiscated all objects in Germany designed to promote militarism and Nazism. Also, the TRANSLATION of a work remains the intellectual property of the translator.
    17. Aiiiii!!!! That is what i want this year!! Bravo. How much do these go for these days?
    18. You and me both Paul, you and me both. The medal bars book IMHO was mostly Ricks' intellectually.... or information that'd been realized via discussions on the WAF. I'd be happy with an annotated translation of Hessenthal and Schreiber and if SOMEONE sold it ON CD!!!! There'd be no printing costs. hint hint
    19. Yeah-the "cavalry" guards with the imperial standard show up in lots of photos. There are usually at least two, but sometimes as many as 5.
    20. Against regs? Yup. But I'd put that one in the maybe/probably category. Look at the construction. That is older and well done and unusually uses a sewing pattern not used much. Whoever made that had some talent and skill. Really odd things are showing up photographically and it might make sense for for some Blockleiter in Berlin etc. I vote maybe-
    21. YAY!!!!!!!!! You have no idea how many hours I have poured through all sorts of stuff looking for 25 NSDAP award dates!! Confirmation at last! It appears as if there was one and only one award date for the NSDAP 25 year medal and hence, we can assess the statistical number of awards. There seems to have been a Furherbefehl for the party in 1942 (I can only find a snippet summary-the book is at U. Michigan) that stopped the award of party decorations for the duration 'to save bronze'. Joe L. if you are out there LOOK HERE!!!! :jumping: :jumping:
    22. In perusing the Iran forum last month I came across this photo and an amazing story of Irans' first national military hero (of the modern era). Wiki claims he was a pilot but he shows up nowhere I can find him. More info to follow-daughter wants to borrow computer to watch hulu....
