    1. I find it interesting how they use to wrap the ribbon through the buttonhole and displayed the medal by doing so. Anyone care to explain that process? What was done when a buttonhole ribbon was sewn already on the tunic, then over that, the buttonhole medal was then displayed?
    2. Where did you get the display case. I would love something like that.
    3. That is a wonderful collection. i am sure that took decades to collect.
    4. I actually figured you, Naxos, to be bidding on it. Whoever won that was definitely a lucky person.
    5. Sounds good. I only have what he and his family told me, but it is an interesting story. I wonder if anyone could translate what was on the bottom of the photo.
    6. I forgot about this picture that I had that ended up being in our Division Newspaper during my Second Deploymnet to Iraq in 2005-2006. Maybe someone can decipher the Arabic.
    7. This Medal Bar was just won on ebay also: Eisernes Kreuz 1914 ( OEK 1909 ), Kronenorden 4. Klasse mit Schwertern ( OEK 1763 ), Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen 2. Klasse ( OEK 1831 ), Militär Dienstauszeichnung für 15 Jahre ( OEK 1974 ). Getragene Spange, alle Teile unbeschädigt, in sehr gutem Erhaltungszustand He has it listed for $385 Euro, but I think it sold for over 700 euro.
    8. Ouch, I was watching this item to see what it sold for and didn't it sell for over $500 Euros? This is crazy! Before I ever buy anything since joining this group, I always ask first. I have definitely learned a lot from everyone on her and got smarter on this collecting field.
    9. I was reading this posting and I believe I just saw something else sold by one of these names (2x in two weeks) for a Crown Order 4th Class with Swords each selling for over $250 Euros. Yikes!
    10. Does anyone know how to obtain records of FFL soldeirs who were killed in the First World War?
    11. Wonderful family history. That is great that everything is in tact. I hope that you children will appreciate it as much as you do.
    12. Great point, but I love the portion "his fake Precious." A little side-tracked, but he is my favorite character.
    13. With some of my shoulder straps, I have tried to get the Feldgrau and pre-war ones and display them together in the same frame. It looks pretty neat on my wall. ostprussenmann
    14. Umm, I am guilty myself. I remeber when I started researching my family, I wanted to get little things here and there, now anytime I get a change or see something in relation to my area of interest, I buy it. My collection has since double in the year of 2011. The wife said that even had to sell some of my guns to fund it. Anyways, I think in the long term, especially when the First World War hits its 100 yr anniversary and when my kid kids older, it will be well worth it.
    15. Dan You made me think of something that happened to me a few years ago regarding people who don't understand anything and the differences between Nazi and Imperial German items. I had to educate my wife on some basic things because when her firends come over and see my display of my Great Grandfather's medals and other things related to his unit next to my Grandfather, who was an American Marine in WWII and Korea, people ask here why there are Nazi things on the wall (ie: My Great Gradnfather's EKII (1914))? So she has to explain the EKII all of the time and the differences between the year, the "W", the Ribbon, ETC. One time a wife came over, who was Jewish and was offended by the display of the items and asked her to take it down while she was in our house. My wife first told her to leave, and then gave her a quick history lesson of the EKII along with throwing out the fact that Jewish people served in the Imperial German Army. She also stated if she was that ignorant, then never come back. I was not home, but to say I was really proud of her. So why do I tell this story? It goes with your posting; I don't have any aspirations of owning TR items. I am in a profession that can cause problems because of ignorance. I would like to at least own a TR EKII and EKI at some point, but that is it and it will never be displayed nor will it be a while. ostprussenmann
    16. Chris Honestly, why would someone even want to own something like this? Reminds me of the 1993 movie Falling Down with Michael Douglas and the crazy Army Surplus owner. v/r ostprussenmann
    17. I have been trying to get to a live auction myself. My friend jsut went to one in Shereport, LA and came back with a Springfield Trapdoor, 1914 EK1 (don't know the stamp), Japanese Sword, and a Heer German Visor. He only dropped $1900. That is a steel to me.
    18. Good luck on finding everything. I am interested in the completion of your project. It just bothers me that people cut up historic items. In regards to finding out who the bar belogns too, I would be someone on here can point you in the right direction. The great people on here have helped me over the last year.
    19. The evolution of the pictures is amazing. I would love to see some of your other work.
    20. That is an interesting tunic. What exactly is a Sonderfuhrer? I have never heard of one. Congrates.
