I thought that these were all combat related awards. From what I read, these were never given out as long service awards, as the ORB and OL were.

Is there a way to have this bar researched to determine who it belonged to?

I think that there is a strong chance that the Bronze Star was the first medal issued, later being upgraded to a Silver Star. It would be really cool to see that citation. You will have to post it, when you get it in. I have never seen two documents for two awards, for the same action(Award upgrade) in a grouping.
