I have a group of documents to a Hauptmann Karl von Bayer-Ehrenberg, but don't have much information on him other than he was from Baden. Apparently he was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Order of Berthold the First, according to the documents. Any additional information would be appreciated.

I thought foreign recipients got the awards with swords on the statute ribbons?

Quality is not what I would expect from an original. A sure give away is the finishing on the crown's cross. These have been very heavily faked.

I was watching that one closely, and was also surprised. It's nice with the SAOwoS, not often seen on a bar, but still crazy money. Did anyone see the Prussian pilot badge case, which went for nearly a grand?

Thanks Steve. I actually had a cased Poellath pilot which I found in a Bavarian town in 1979. It was mint and engraved on the reverse with the pilot's name, squadron and date of award. I paid about 50.00 for it. Unfortunately it is long gone, and I wish I had taken pictures of it, it was stunning.

That's too bad. I've sent it back, and the quest continues. In five years I've only been able to snag one genuine Poellath badge.

Thanks for the feedback, Don. It closely matches the one at the end of Baldes' Bavaria section. I sent detailed scans to Ferg, and he's wary of this one, possibly a late strike. In hand it feels very convincing, but I'm going to send it back, since I'm looking for a good piece from the award period.
