    1. Chris, The copy that I have cuts off at the letter "K" for recipients of the EK2. He is not listed as having the EK 1 either. Andy.
    2. He was in fact called back during the war with the "Überwachungsstelle b. Haupt Telegraphenamt Berlin." (guarding the main telegraph office in Berlin) He was given the "Charakter" of colonel on 20.06.1918. He received the PStJO on 20.02.1899 as a Turkish colonel and Adjutant to the Sultan in Constantinopel. During his time in Turkish service, he spent 17 months (not sure when) in Tripolis training the cavalry in that area. Most likely, it was during this period that he earned his "stars." Andy
    3. Chris and Andy Ludwig Saxer, Kapt. z.S. and Chef d. St. d. Gouv. v. Kiatschou in 1914! Charakter als Kontreadmiral 30.01.1920. Andy
    4. Ingo, As I was typing my response, Glenn posted the information first. Do you have the date and place of birth for Ewald Gallus from FAR 2 who received the PLM on 15.01.1867?? He died of wounds on 18.10.1871 as a Major in 3. FAB. Andy
    5. Chris I think the Abteilungs Vorstand is "Reinick", probably Robert from FAR 19 at beginning of the war. Andy
    6. Jon posted the new address on this forum not too long ago. Have a look here: Andy
    7. Dave, I believe the signature is that of Walter von Haxthausen, Oberquartiermeister d. 5. Armee in 1916. PLM recipient as well. Andy
    8. Christer, Here is his complete career Hermann, his two years at the Childrens Clinic were long after he completed training. It was very common for military medical officers to spend several years at a civilian hospital. particularly when assigned to the Kaiser Wilhelm Academy. No doubt this was to keep the doctors up-to-date on medical procedures, but also to given them practical experience in areas outside duty with the troops. The Prussian army was always chronically short of medical officers (active and reserve/Landwehr) , and it did all it could to attract and retain qualified medical officers. One way to do this was to give them non-military assignments. Having traced the careers of all the medical officers from the Ober Stab Arzt onwards in the 1914 Rangliste, I can assure you that such assignments were very common. 9. All, According to the Stammliste of the 1. GRzF p. 44 "03. Mai 1900 die Gradabzeichen eines General-Feldmarchalls angelegt." On 3 May 1900 put on the rank insignia of a GFM. Andy
    10. Ian, As a start: from the 1936 Austrian "Schematismus" I can provide the following information Captain and company commander in Inf. R. 4 "Hoch- und Deutschmeister" in Vienna. Date of rank as captain 27.01.1931. He had the following awards and decorations: all Austrian: silb. Verdienstzeichen silb. Tapferkeitsmedaille 2. Kl. Karl Truppenkreuz Verwund. Abz. Milit. Dienstausz. 3. Kl. für Mannschaften silb. Ehrenmedaille vom Roten Kreuz mit Kriegsdekoration Kriegserringungsmedaille mit Kriegsdekoration Andy
    11. Andreas, This is the info I have on Hptm.d.L. Hartong. I can find nothing in the MWB that shows he was promoted Major, though that does not mean much if these items come directly from his family. Andy Name Rang geb Hptm Oblt Leutn Landwehrbezirk Stellung Hartong, Hptm. 30.01.1870 22.03.1914 18.10.1909 25.11.1898 Landwehr d. Telegraphentruppen (Soest) 1908 Oberpostprakt. in Oppeln
    12. Heiko, Attached is his entry from the 1913 Crew book from ancestry.de. It states clearly that he was killed by English fighter bombers. Andy A
    13. Ingo, To reinforce Glenn's point, he was promoted Hptm. on 31.05.1859 and became a company commander on 18.10.1860. He was not yet 33 1/2 years old at the time he made captain. Promoted Major on 25.09.1867, he assumed Batl. command on 15.10.1867. Andy
    14. He was born 03.12.1825 in Cöln and died 17.12.1871 in Düsseldorf. Andy
    15. Chris, I've gone through the 1917 Verordnungsblatt but could not find any item from the Milit. Kabinett with that date. However, there are many requests for the current location of EK recipients. As an example, on page 54 article "Nr. 116. Nachforschung nach Inhabern des Eisernen Kreuzes II. Klasse." 31 Januar 1917 This requests the location of certain NCOs who received the EKII in 1915. The last sentence of the item states: "Behufs Ausstellung der für das Militärkabinett bestimmten Auszüge wird um Angabe an Obost ersucht, wo sich die Genannten jetzt befinden." This same sentence is used at the end of each of the requests regarding EK recipients, and there does not seem to be any indications that the soldiers were wounded. Perhaps we might assume that the Militärkabinett was attempting to document each award of the EK and the fate of the recipients??? Your document seems to fulfill that requirement. I'll keep looking for the actual document. Andy
    16. Ingo, Unfortunately, his entry in the Stammliste of the GFR does not give his place of birth. Andy
    17. Ingo, v. Schlichting was born 24.07.1832 and died 22.11.1867. I do not have dates for v. Pogrell Andy
    18. Joe, It's interesting that both yours and mine have different numbers. Perhaps the second part was only issued at mobilization, which might explain why the numbers do not match and that part is marked "GEHEIM" by the publisher. Interesting to say the least! Andy .
    19. Joe, I've had a copy of the "Anhaltspunkte für den Generalstabsdienst" for a number of years. It is marked "Nur für den Dienstgebrauch" and stamped "GEHEIM" (presumably after mobilization). My edition was printed in 1914 and is numbered "49" The second part, "Taschenbuch des Generalstabsoffiziers", marked "GEHEIM" is numbered 84. I'd be curious to know the numbers of your copy- just to get a sense of how many might have been published each year. Thanks, Andy
