Paul R Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 The black marks indicate vehicles and the white ones, air craft in this photo?
Snoopy Posted April 18, 2008 Author Posted April 18, 2008 The black marks indicate vehicles and the white ones, air craft in this photo?I believe that you are correct. Beneath the two white rings, a silhouette of an aircraft, is painted on the barrel. I believe that the dark rings, are for vehicles.Snoopy
Robert Noss Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Hey Snoopy,I have some small contributions.8.8 cm Flak at the channel coast. From "0" to "38"First victory 9.april 1941They painted the victory markings to the barrel and the Kommandoger?tand a photo of the victim..............
Robert Noss Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 ............let's proceed to number 4, that day they were awarded with IC 2'sand 11the room on one side wasn't enough anymore, so they used the other side too................
Robert Noss Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 ..............11 on the barrelsome day the barrel brokeNow it's easier to show whole pages of the album21 victorys - for 2 victorys the whole unit got "Abschusswimpel" - little flags that were raised at a pole near the firing position.....................
Robert Noss Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 ...........25and 28 on the barrel..............
Robert Noss Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 ........30in the end this gun had 38 victorys. These photos are from 6 albums with about 1200 photos from a gunner in the Flak-Regiment 5 at the channel coast.Kind regardsRobert
Robert Noss Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Maybe one remark. In a ground-to-air combat the whole battery got the markings on all guns, cause the whole battery fired at the airplanes together and it was probably impossible to name the gun which made the "final hit" to kill the airplane.Robert
Snoopy Posted April 26, 2008 Author Posted April 26, 2008 Hello RobertWow, that's the best pictures I have ever seen. It gives me a lot of painting ideas, for my scale modelling. The gun barrel, that looks like a banana peel, must really have gone off with a bang. The picture with the abschusswimpel is very interesting. I have never seen those before. All the bestSnoopy
