    KHALKIN GOL 1939

    Paul,

I followed your link but it didn't take me to the Khalkhin Gol on the Collect Russia site but to a different badge. I did find the Khalkhin Gol and it was listed for $295.00

Thanks for everyone suggestions re the purchase of one of these badges. There are lots of excellent pictures of the Khalkhin Gol in this thread and I intend to study them, in relation to the badge for sale here, before coming to any decisions to buy or not. This will probably be just an exercise in learning about Mongolian badges. Always a worthwhile exercise for any countries awards.

    Rick,

I've looked at the Mongolian books on collect Russia, as well as the Chinese book recomended, but I really balk at paying $40.00 shipping for books that range in price from $20.00 to 39.95. Perhaps I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay the fees but I won't do it happily!

    Regards,

    Gordon

Recently I have seen them go for as much as $450 but really that's too much for me.... In the good old days when 50-100 would get you nice examples.....

Anyway back to the real world.. If you can get it for the 200-225 mark you're getting a pretty good deal....

The flat backs do go for a bit less but not as much as you'd expect.

Collectrussia's $295 example is a flat back and that's too much, had it been a screwback it might be worth getting....

lastly, I see you are in Canada so if you happen to be near Toronto I'll gladly show you the badges in person because as Ed said they are heavily faked and once you've seen the real thing you won't be fooled by the fakes...

    Cheers

    JC

An update on these medals from Budapest. There seem to be many more fakes turning up at shows and flea markets these days. That might have something to do with the availability of local medals drying up over the last two years. The Khalkhin Gol and Chinese medals seem to be especially popular.

    JC,

I'll definitely take you up on your offer to show me the real thing before I buy. We'll be back in Canada briefly in June of 09 for our daughters graduation from university and should be home for good by the end of July.

    Regards,

    Gordon

Did anyone find out about the document with the "sloppy" handwriting in this thread ? Post 95

another similar doc with very close number is now out on ebay

could they both be fakes ? The number seems rather high for an old awarded Khalkin Gol

    Ebay 250490933369

I emailed the seller, giving him a piece of my mind......I'm bein gvery polite....

Yes it's a fake and a bad one at that... I have a fake doc with the same serial number.... You think he would change that...

There is a thread on fakes where we covered this person and his fakes....

    Avoid at all costs...

Just received this nice medal. What surprised me is its size - it's almost like a miniature! 1 centimeter diameter!

"Medal of 30years of Khalkyn Gol Victory" is how the seller had posted it. A pleasnt LITTLE surprise:)

Not sure whether I posted this before. Cleaning up old emails and these pics popped up. I didn't appreciate the price which the dealer was quoting for this sword almost 10 years ago so passed on it which I obviously regret now...

It's a Soviet cavalry sword with... something very familiar affixed to it.

And pure fate, luck, and some $$$ resulted in the above mentioned soviet cavalry sword recently becoming a part of my collection!

Great and rare item related to the Battle at Khakhin Gol. Congrats! The inscription in Russian reads "To Political commissar P.S. Polyschuk for the combat preparation and courage displayed during the battle of Khalkhin Gol. October 1, 1939. From the People's Commissar (Minister) of Defense of USSR.
