Chris Boonzaier Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Hi, is this the regular uniform of an Army Kraftfahrer? Or is there a paramilitary element to it? Thanks Chris
The Prussian Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Hi Chris! It´s a regular drivers leather uniform. The were also collar-badges with a motor-bike
Stuka f Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Sorry for the bad pic, but allow me to show you a die of a Kraftfahrer insigna, right of the button with a crown die.
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 A better shot of the 1st guy....
DGoss Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 My great grandfather was part of 3. Kompanie E/VIII Kraftfahr-Bataillon Breslau (1916-1917) & Kraftfahr-Abteilung 1 (1917-1918) in Charleville France. I have some photos of him from those times. Does anyone have more information on what they would have been doing for duties during those times? Also, I was looking to find a leather jacket like the ones they wore. Is that possible? Does anyone manufacture a good replica ? Thank you Daryl
GreyC Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 Hi, very nice. The "E" stands for Ersatz=replacement. They would fill in the gaps or cater for additional demand. Later he was in a unit that would chauffeur others or deliver orders etc. Here is one of mine: GreyC

Paul R Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Those are some great photos and uniforms. Thank you for sharing them with us.
GreyC Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Hi, here is one more from my collection: a fairly rare photo of a sub-unit of the Kraftfahr-Korps, the bike-riders. They had their own badge, but the "K" on the shoulder-boards like their colleagues on four wheels. GreyC

GreyC Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 (edited) Hi, here are two of them with bike (probably a Wanderer) and comrades. GreyC Edited November 18, 2018 by GreyC
ixhs Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 Nice pics - are there some good books about uniforms and insignia out there ?
GreyC Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 (edited) Hi, German Army? If so in what language should the books be in? GreyC Edited November 18, 2018 by GreyC
DGoss Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 GreyC here is another photo of my great grandfather when he was in France in the motorcycle unit.
GreyC Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 This is a very interesting photo. The sign says "Probe-Fahrt" "Tryout-tour". So the soldiers are either part of a driving school or some sort of mechanics who try out new or repaired motorcycles. GreyC
The Prussian Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Hello! The "I" on the plate is an indicator for german 1st army.
DGoss Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Here is the back of the photo in his own handwriting. Let me know if that gleams and information I was too young to really ever ask him when he passed in 1978, but my uncle said he would tell him stories of running messages back and forth to the front lines.
GreyC Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 (edited) Hi, 3rd June 1917 x=Head of repairshop Helmich xx=Motorcycledriver Wohlebe of Motorcycle unit 1 (Kraftrad-Abteilung 1) Charleville-Mezieres, France Merry Xmas, GreyC Edited December 20, 2018 by GreyC
DGoss Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Actually, that writing was on the back of this photo. But obviously taken at the same time. Looks like my grandfather took this one and the other guy took the first photo.

The top and that band. I was looking to try to find one. Even a reproduction one would be fine. I’m just not sure which one it would be. Thanks
GreyC Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 (edited) Hi, Fieldgrey top, piping red, Besatzstreifen black, visor black if I remember correctly. GreyC Edited December 20, 2018 by GreyC
