After searching through some old family boxes, I came across a picture to go with one of my bars.  I have shared the bar before, but I would like to present Earnst Schöen in uniform wearing his awards.  I hope everyone enjoys.

Yes, very nice indeed. Can you post images of the KO4mS and the clasp on the colonial medal? I would also be interested to see the reverse of the bar. Are you sure on the spelling of this officer's name?

I am pretty sure, that Ernst is correct and Earnst is just a typo!

    Yes, sorry about that.

This would be my great grandfather who died not to long after the war due to Influenza.  I know he spent a fair amount of time in Africa and his family is from Lübeck.  I have all of the documents to accompany the awards but that doesn't give me a lot of information on his life.

As I go through old family boxes, I come across more and more little treasures.  Perhaps I may find some more information as I search.

It seems to be Ernst Friedrich Werner Schön:

Did he make Major (looking at his epaulettes)? What is the third decoration from the right? Thanks! Oh, wait, how stupid of me. Hanseatenkreuz Lübeck. I found this: Ernst Friedrich Werner (* 22. September 1875; † 30. Juni 1923), Direktor der Jäger-Rothe-Siemens-Werke ⚭ 1919 Olga Mascha Minlos (* 26. April 1897; † 29. November 1923) ... his wife died very young, only months after him. Maybe suicide?

Well, I have found a captain / Hauptmann Schön in the adressbook of Deutsch Ost Afrika from 1913. I have underlined his name, maybe he is your Ernst Schön.

Please let me add for Werner Schön (after 1922 Schoen), also kaiserlich ottomanischer Oberstleutnant (he probably went around 1916 to Turkey after Africa?). His brother Hans Ludwig Ernst Schön, after 1922 Schoen, was allowed on 13 May 1925 to change his name in "Schoen von Wildenegg". This brother raised the two daughters (born 1920 and 1922) of our Major a. D., they also received the addition "Schoen von Wildenegg".

Thanks for all the great information!  I have found both Schön and Schöen in family documents, but pretty sure it's Schön as found by Komtur.  Family history has husband and wife dying of Influenza and the children were raised by relatives.

I will post the award documents and some close-ups later.

Thanks! Do you know in which Regiment he started with? You are the great-grandson ... who was your grandmother? Olga-Mascha Elisabeth Freya Johanna (later Gräfin zu Rantzau) or Barbara Margot Alice Laura Marie? If this is too personal, I would understand.

    Andreas,

Werner Schön was commissioned into Westfälisches Pionier-Bataillon Nr. 7. Sekonde-Lieutenant (18.10.97).

Thank you, Glenn! 27 January 1908 Oberleutnant, 27 January 1913 Hauptmann. At some point he served with the 3. Rheinisches Pionier-Bataillon Nr. 30, I do not know if before his service in Turkey or afterwards.

Thank you!!! I wonder, if he ever received the Verwundetenabzeichen? I would say yes, seeing he also received the EK I, the first picture (with Fez in hand) is before August 1918, maybe even 1917.

What about the last medal, I first thought the Imtiaz-Medaille in silver, but probably to small. Would it rather be the Silberne Liakat-Medaille? Thanks!

The osmanic medal is the silver Liakat Medal
