Stogieman Posted October 27, 2023 Author Posted October 27, 2023 I posted these images in my Traveling Circus Thread but thought it belonged here as well. My Holy Grail 1
augustin1813 Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 Very nice!. It seems to be of the same manufacture as the one I posted above.
Stogieman Posted October 29, 2023 Author Posted October 29, 2023 No maker marks but if I had to guess I’d say Scharffenburg
Stogieman Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 On eBay.de now, 880-Euro opening bid. Nice original RK!
Stogieman Posted December 21, 2023 Author Posted December 21, 2023 No one bid on the one in Germany! I thought it was pretty reasonable, maybe he’ll relist it

Stogieman Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 Another example from eBay.de, final bid 650-Euro
VtwinVince Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I saw that one, not a bad price in spite of the damage.
JohanH Posted February 28 Posted February 28 A little off topic perhaps.... But here is the "modern" (post 1918) version of the St Henry order. Instituted in 1963 and as I understand it only 33 members of the order is allowed. The needle is to be returned upon the death of the recipient. So it should be very very rare. If anyone is interested in it, send me a PM. I consider all offers.
VtwinVince Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Hmmm, interesting, never heard of it. What are the prerequisites for bestowal?

There is very little information to be found online about it. I got in a deal among some other medals. That's why I am looking to sell it. The only other one I have seen is the one Weitze has for sale for an extremely high price. But he does have a pic of the statues (I guess, my school german isn't very good). Perhaps someone more fluent than me can read it and give me (us) a summary? Sächsische St.Heinrichs-Nadel mit Krone - Sachsen Königreich - Auszeichnungen deutscher Staaten bis 1933 - Militaria / Helmut Weitze
Mike Huxley Posted February 29 Posted February 29 I would say that the one you have is a cheap copy, when compared with the example Weitze is selling. The quality of the crown and other parts of yours is way below his one, sorry, but that is my opinion.
VtwinVince Posted February 29 Posted February 29 I agree, the Weitze piece is much higher quality. Unfortunately he doesn't state what this was awarded for. OK, just read the statutes, it was awarded for services to the memory of Saxon culture and the army, and was open to citizens of the Koenigreich as well as the Herzogtuemer.
JohanH Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Thanks for your reply! I am quite certain that my piece is real but I believe it is a much later version than the one Weitze is selling. His piece is probably much older and therefore of better quality (as almost everything is). Here is a piece from 2012.
Stogieman Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Kind of a watered down award criteria given it was originally given for extreme bravery in war.

Good Morning Bernd, I’m going to have to disagree with you on this, the St. Henry was a bravery award only. Military Merit was awarded the Albert Order or Merit Order without swords. Unless you can show me in the statutes otherwise.
Bernd_W Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Quote Awarded for Bravery and military merit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Order_of_St._Henry Quote At the time of its founding, the baroque order primarily honored military merit. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Militär-St.-Heinrichs-Orden#Ordensstatuten
Stogieman Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 With all due respects, I will disagree with these sources
laurentius Posted March 3 Posted March 3 17 hours ago, Stogieman said: With all due respects, I will disagree with these sources That is always allowed, but if one scrolls through the list of recipients there are a couple of names I would not credit with bravery like Paul von Hindenburg or Crownprince Rupprecht. As one descends from the grand crosses down to the lower grades the amount of bravery awards increases and military merit awards goes down. 1
Stogieman Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 Well, I thought we were discussing the RK, not the higher grades of which I know nothing.
ccj Posted March 17 Posted March 17 I have two, one was the first imperial order purchased from Detlev. It has damage but I like it. Sorry for the quality but its behind glass.
