X-times rarer than a Knights Cross: Imperial kicking butt...

    Recommended Posts

When I see folks laying out EUR7000 for a knights cross which was awarded 7300 times... I think on one hand that Imperial is Undervalued... and thank god for that! Or Knights Crosses are simply overvalued...

Whatever... Lets see what you have that is rarer than a Knights Cross... and by how much!

Bavarian Gold Bravery medal.... 7 times rarer than a Knights Cross of the Iron Cross...btm1.thumb.jpg.098b5b8e6b4f24c30271842d9btm2.thumb.jpg.5576714cfc002c06b301c45b8

Many of our "normal" awards, even simple ones, are rarer than a RK... Anyone know how many Lübeck Crosses were awarded?

    Hi Paul,

They are a bit more expensive, that is true, but these are scarce as well and not expensive...

Small Baden Golden Verdienst Medal on a war ribbon, about 400 awards and the Würt. Service cross with swords, about 2300 award... The latter has 3 times less awards than a Knights cross, but will only set you back about EUR250 for a loose one...baden.thumb.jpg.b4cb92f2c5106b641dbdd60b

I bet that these still go for 1000s a piece though...  What is the difference between a land pilot badge and a regular pilot's badge?  Is it in the role?

The land pilot badge is the navy version of the imperial german pilot badge although the training was on different units. The navy have their own training facilities but some of the pilots were trained on army training units.

The number of navy land pilots are less than army pilots.

    Chris Boonzaier,

Thank you for raising an important point. I do believe, though, that the value of rarity has slowly become more appreciated among Imperial collectors in recent years.

Related to this is the ability to often identify to whom a medal bar was awarded; which opens the door to enhancing it’s significance. Also, in some cases - for instance the Hannover and Braunschweig Waterloo and Baden Carl Friedrich Military Merit Order medals - the medals are actually named to the recipient, again enhancing it’s significance.

Thank you again for raising this important point.
